Before the patch I had this issue too. I had my sims go to Uni, came back and the reaper took all my chickens even chicks? and my cow. Then I check ok maybe I forgot to turn off the animal aging. After the latest patch, another of my sim went to Uni. This time I remember to turn off aging, farm animals, sims played and unplayed household all off. The moment I came back the reaper came and took everything chicks and cows as well
