[ECO] Hardly any Sims visiting Community Space

In Evergreen harbour, all three community lots were voted to be Maker spaces. Since last update, apart from the Sim I am playing, the only people that visit the lot are the experts in their field who mentor. Previously random people would turn up, including children as there is a kids craft area. Now there are no vendors to man sales table or people for these mentors to teach.

I don't have any mods loaded or use cheats.

I will experiment with a new game to see if it is the same. I've played with community lots a lot, so know how they used to operate.

  • Thanks for all the details. Up to Maxis now to look into this.

I am having the same issue with my community spaces from eco lifestyle, it doesn't matter which version of the community space it is set to. Sims no longer garden, sell things, or make things. Few sims show up other than lovestruck couples.  I can no longer click to hire food stand vendors.

Previously if you put a Food Van there, you didn't need to hire it. It was operated 24/7 by a succession of Sims. (My goto person to present a concept plan to!)

It's a shame because community lots were fun.

Ditto being able to add items to parks. Plus the random Sims using them skilled up and the items made were left in their inventories, both personal and House.

Also at one stage they would complete their task, freeing up the workspace.

Now they just start a piece then abandon it after seconds, meaning no one else can use it unless I go into build mode and delete half finished wood working or art or scrap them.

Funnily enough, that isn't the case at the Casbah gallery where possibly the mentor equivalents still go around scrapping half finished artwork and woodworking in the gallery.

Which suggests they've changed the behavior patterns in many of the Lots and Spaces.

At one stage, once I added the necessary items, parks like Desert Bloom functioned like Recreation centers if they had all the required objects. Now I have to designate them as Recreation centers for them to work.

The big exception is Sales Tables. No one automatically mans them. The random items were fun. I even picked up a Money tree flower from one once.

Is the maker space the only community lot you have issues with or do you have also no Sims on other lots ?

      Okay did some more testing.

First I changed one of my three Maker lots to a Community garden. Nobody but my active Sim went into the built area. (Sprucewood). Usually at least Agatha and Agnes turn up immediately regardless of time of day and throw plants onto empty garden beds and sometimes plant them.

Then I started a new game with one new character. No mods. No cheats. I built up community points in the usual way by introducing Sims to other people.

Moved my Sim into Canal Corner. Voted on Sprucewood Square to be Marketplace this time, using the default design. Once it changed, random townies turned up and started chatting to each other eg Nancy Landgraab, but no one with Vendor above their name (as there usually is) so nothing on tables. The food van remained closed.

I then played the Greenburgs and Bess and Jules to get enough community points to turn Port Promise into a Maker space and Green Initiatives. Again the only people that turned up were the Master Crafters, Recycling Gurus and my Sim. Tina Tinker turned up immediately and started making candles or used Fabricator. Lily Feng was a Master Crafter and there were about three others, all ready to Mentor. But no one to mentor. I suppose you could have your Sim invite a stack of random Sims or friends, but you didn't need to in the past.

The Harris family looked after Grims Quarry which was turned into a Community Garden. Result was the same as mentioned above. No one turned up at all.

This totally breaks the Community Lots. Before, it was like the gyms or library. Random townies come and build whatever skill they use at the same time as your Sim.

San Myoshuno Meadows is empty like that. Your active Sim and guests are the only ones there (though you see a Mixologist leaving sometimes) This is good for private parties and dates, and is somewhat realistic as a Venue for weddings etc. But Community Lots are for community. Random people coming and going, even your non active Played household members would randomly turn up and use woodworking table etc.

The Casbah Gallery still works in that people use the facilities. But strictly speaking it's not a Community Lot.

      Now :(

  • I'm still not sure what you are saying, it's just the community space lots that don't work ? the lot type from eco ?

Yes. The Eco Lifestyle has the only ones designated as Community Lots.

Random Sims still go to Celebration Centre in Sans Sequoia but that is defined as a Recreation center.

Random Sims still turn up to other places defined as museums, galleries and gyms.

Eco community lots in Evergreen Harbor (ONLY SINCE LAST UPDATE) have no random Sims turn up into built area for Community Gardens and Maker spaces, The latter has Recycling Gurus and Master Crafters and your Sim. Market Space has random Sims but no Vendors.

A Community lot is everything that's not residential.  The Eco livestyle lot trait is a community space, hence the confusion.

Gave this a short test and I had a few Sims show up although there was a thunderstorm going on. This was for the default.

Maybe others can chime in what they are seeing.

      Hi

Sorry for confusion with name of lot.

I've been investigating this a bit more.

Before I go on though, previously (going back months/years) you could add items to lots called PARKS eg Desert Bloom and Magnolia Blossom eg Fabricators, Fridges, Easels, and random SIMS would visit these parks 24/7 and use items eg plant and tend seeds in pots and vertical planters. They would use easels to paint. Use woodworking tables AND Fabricators and Guntdach Recyclers without being told to. Rummage in bins, Woo Hoo in bins, Dumpster Dive (again without being told to).

Since last update, they only use items that were originally in parks, eg chess tables.

Previously, if you created a Community Space, and voted for a particular type of space eg Maker, Garden and Marketplace, random Sims would visit and use every item there whether or not it was exclusive for that type. So if you had a planter box in a Maker Space, they would plant and tend. If you put a Sales table there, it would be manned and they would usually sell plants and dyes, soy wax and beeswax and more importantly Eco Upgrade parts. Now these tables are unattended even in a dedicated Market Places. Before if you put in the Grub and Beetle houses, they would get tended and fed. If you put in the insects etc, they seem to get tended but it's "off screen". The dumpster bins gradually fill with rubbish even though it seems no one is there.

Sims visiting lot: Still the only Community Space lots that gets visited by random Sims are Maker Spaces and they have designated roles. Other Sims hang around outside buildable area but don't come in.

Nobody but active Sim enters the other two Community Spaces.

Recreation Centres: Random Sims do enter these but don't use Easels, Fabricators or Woodworking tables if they are there.

The only thing that seems multipurpose is the Arts centre where random Sims come and use equipment with no Master designations. I'm not sure whether it's tied to their skill level.

To test all the above, I used the same basic design and placed it in a number of different lots on a few maps. Then I assigned each to the above different categories ie Park, Recreation Centre, Arts Centre and the four types of Community Space. Then I had a Sim visit each and stayed a while with that Sim to see what happened. In the Community Space variants, other Sims walked around out side but didn't enter built area unless they were classified as Mentors. The other is as above.

It can't just be because those items aren't expected at those sites, because if I put computers in each they get used straight away.

Plus the times they visit these places seems to have changed. They used to be 24/7 but now they arrive at Recreations Centres and parks around 7am and leave at 10pm. Not good for Vampires!

I'm confused by your statement: "Gave this a short test and I had a few Sims show up although there was a thunderstorm going on." Show up where? Which type of lot and what map? As you say, Community lots cover a wide variety of functional spaces.

      cheers

      Amber

Now Recreation Centre upstairs showing equipment being used
Recreation centre downstairs, seconds after changing use from Community Garden
Community Garden after half day no one there
Marketplace, people there but no vendors. Not using any other equipment
Maker Space, Tina using candle maker, other Mentors standing around. No randoms
Recreation centre, woodworking room not being used
Recreation centre, randoms using all equipment
Recreation centre, computers and gym equipment being used
Arts centre, woodworking table and other equipment being used, not fabricators.

I took some screenshots to show what I mean.

        Summary:

Art Centre. Normal number of random visitors appear. Activities they autonomously do: buy drinks, access refrigerator for milk or stored meals, paint, play instruments, garden, woodworking they DO NOT use Fabricator or Guntdach recycler
Recreation centres: As above EXCEPT do not use woodworking table also
MarketPlace: Normal people turn up and chat, put on fire, access refrigerator but none act as Vendors or do anything else even if things are there, eg easels, woodworking tables
Community Garden: No one turns up at all, but if use changed to recreation centre, they do all the activities listed for that type of venue almost immediately
Maker Space: Only Mentors arrive (four) If Tina Tinker is around, she will use Fabricator and candle maker. No one uses Recycler or accesses dumpster. No one mans sales table.

Prior to last download, random sims would use every piece of equipment in the Maker Space and Garden

  • Apologies, a couple of captions have got mixed up. The Community Garden -> Recreation space was the Port Promise site and the Marketplace was the Quarry. Contrary to previous place, random Sims did turn up at Marketplace but they just sat around and talked, cleaned or used bathroom.
