I am currently playing the Extraterrestrial Researcher scenario, whose goal is to bring back 5 unique living alien critters from voyages into space. On my first voyage that brought anything back, I got a common space rock and a dead space porcupine, neither of which should count as a living alien critter, but my scenario goal counter is now 1/5.
