Frozen game/menu after ad

When opening the game there is a full screed ad for the "Nature's Calling" Event. Clicking "play now" does not work, and clicking the "x" greys out the Main Menu, making it completely useless.

Yes, I play with mods. However, I have been playing this game for years (as recently as yesterday) with no issues. I have followed several instructions online such as repairing the game, restarting several times, deleting local files etc.

The game is completely unplayable at this point.
