I've also had this issue for months. No matter if I click the X or hit the Esc key, it grays out the whole screen, making it unable to click on anything, and I have to force quit and reload the game for it to work nearly every single time I play.
I play on a Mac in English (USA). Standard version, up to date, and nearly every DLC except kits. I do play with mods, but the issue persists even when they are not in my game.
