This problem is still occurring for me - I start up the game, a pop up ad shows up, I try to close it (or pretend to order the thing advertised), and I get a white screen. The only way I can clear that up is to do a hard reboot, followed by a regular reboot. Otherwise, my computer is messed up. Please fix this bug. It looks like something that's been happening for eight months now!!!
I had a thought though - I have One Drive running because that's where I store all my files. Sims has always clashed with One Drive for me, but I've found work arounds. Could it be a conflict between these two programs?
I dislike One Drive so I have mine inactivated. I don't have to do a hard reboot but I do have to get out of the game, pull up the Manager and close the app from there, sometimes repeatedly. When the ads go away, so does the problem!
