crinrict I'm having the same issue, however I have found a weird solution in my game. I also could not find the discuss fears of death in the deep thoughts submenu of the friendly menu. I did however have "discuss fear of horses" (I don't have the horse EP). When I selected that option my fear of death trait resolved.
I had this happen with two sims in the same household at different times. Once with the adult wife who was created in CAS, and once with the adult husband (Brent Hecking) who was one of the sims who came with the cats & dogs EP. Both are stay at home parents.
