I'm having this same issue. I thought inviting the sim over to my house might help. But instead he keeps dying at the front of the lot. Closed the game and played with a different family to see what would happen. The only way to fix it is to select the 'delete inventory' option. But then my sim isn't even sad that his dad died. He doesn't have the moodlet - very weird bug.
