I'm currently struggling with this bug as well (the sim was posted with underwear for all her outfits, so it's especially frustrating.) Adding here that a work around I found was to use testingcheats to remove the sim from the active household, then immediately readd them. Their clothes will still revert back if you take the sim to another lot, so keep that in mind if you start a social event somewhere other than home. This is going to be a fun date :)
