Ideas
When in CAS using the colour sliders on makeup or skin tone only works up you slide them to the right. Sliding them to the left does nothing to change the brightness, saturation, or hue. This is the case in CAS, and does not change when you enter live mode.
I cannot darken my Sims' skin tone or their makeup. I've noticed this issue ever since I first downloaded the game on my Mac two years ago, when I was only using the base game and no mods.
I currently have every single pack and kit (minus Bust the Dust) and use some mods, but even without the mods, the colour sliders don't work. I know other Mac players have had this issue as well.
