Normal maps for walls, floors, columns and friezes do not function indoors

When I add columns to spandrels the spandrels instantly get very dark colored, but mainly in one direction (This is on the Twin Oracle Point lot in Willow Creek, mid day summer, regular rectangular room).  This happened with any combination of spandrels and columns, larger columns definitely had a bigger effect.

And then the reverse happens in the dark - and they become hyper bright - picking up and amplifying any light on the floor above them. (This was a single lamp on the story up above, and not directly over the columns)
