I've seen a 5 year old bug report marked "OPEN" for this, but it is locked.
Sims reset every time they craft a herbal remedy with the herbalism skill.
They will stand by the grill, brew the remed...

This has been fixed... sort of....on the bbq they now take the potion in their hand and place it back on to the bbq plate and shut the lid [you can see the potion sparkle through the lid] and the bbq becomes unusable, and you can't collect the potion and the bbq is now a lawn ornament. Kinda want the old bug back please as I have "lost" 3 potions this way 🤣.
Here is how I work around this. Neither is lost! Select on your sim to put the grill in their inventory. You will then see both the remedy and the grill in their inventory. Select on the remedy to have your sim place in the world (you can’t drag it). Then you can take the grill out separately and both will work.
