Plant Sim: No option to absorb solar energy

I am having the same issue! I have no mods and don't own the new nature expansion, I am just trying to do the scenario because its my favorite. I have tried moving the plants to make them more accessible, I have tried with two sims as well and neither of them can absorb solar energy. My one sim has maxed gardening and the second is about halfway there. I tried on plants of all evolution stages. I have tried during different weather and also at different levels of hunger. I feel like it has to do with the update they made for the new expansion but that is a guess. I have even tried quitting the scenario and restarting it. I am so sad. Plant sims have always been the best and I feel like they deserved better. I hope you can get it to work somehow.
