I'm having the same issue of the Dedeathify spell not working properly.
My sim (virtuoso spellcaster) used the spell on his sister (regular sim/no occult) who died of freezing to death and nothing happened. The spellcaster sim did get the icon above his head with the little book and the plus sign (gaining experience). I tried multiple times. Then the spell failed/backfired (this time the sim actually animated doing the spell and failing with the black poof of smoke) and the spellcaster became a ghost temporarily. So it seems the spell does 'work' when it fails (the spell casting animation is shown and the -failed- spell has a visible effect in game), but not when it is supposed to succeed (the interaction drops from the queue, there is no casting spell animation and the sim is not brought back to life).
