THIS IS A FRESH BUG AND NEEDS TO BE SORTED- The other modes work okay but not POV mode for Screenshot
I have also had this happen a couple of times, though it doesn't happen all the time.
The first time it happened I was playing in a mod (and cc) free save and the first screenshot was fine, but the second time I took a screenshot (right afterwards) my game froze and I had to alt tab out and open task manager to close the game. I restarted my computer and then using c worked for a while, using it didn't freeze my game for a couple of weeks.
The second time I had it happen I did have mods in and again I had to alt tab out and use task manager to close the game (and the message in task manager both times was that The Sims 4 was not responding). Note that both times I was just playing regularly in live mode, I was not in POV or tab mode.
I play on Windows 10. Both times was on game version PC 1.118.257.1020 DX 11 and both times my sims were in the process of aging up on a birthday cake (that's often when I tend to get in game screenshots).
This happened to me twice today. My game completely freezes when I press C to take a screenshot, and I have to restart my computer because I can't exit the game or open task manager.
My game generally crashes very rarely. Now suddenly taking a screenshot using the C key (on PC) just immediately crashes it. Many, many times now. Extremely frustrating!
Edit: This bug is tagged "Needs info". What info is needed?
Since a few weeks ago, the game gets frozen randomly in the moment I rotate and/or take photos. I'm not sure wich one of them causes it or if it's a combination of both. I have to force the game to close or restart.
It doesn't happen all the time, sometimes after a few minutes playing, others after hours. But it happens on a daily basis.
Everything seems ok and updated (windows, game, drivers...) and it never happened before.
I don't use any mod or CC.
Just in case, I add the last exception report and my system DxDiag.
Hey everyone, I wanted to share a temporary fix I found for this screenshot freeze bug. I play on Windows so I apologize for those who are on Mac. I do not have one so naturally I am unable to test for a fix for Mac users.
Here’s what to do:
1. Launch your game and load into your household(s). 2. Open Windows Game Bar by pressing Windows key + G on your keyboard. - If a popup asks "Do you want to open Game Bar?", click "Yes, this is a game." 3. Enter Tab Mode in The Sims 4 to hide the UI, if you prefer clean screenshot without UI and menus. 4. Position your camera exactly where you want your screenshot. 5. Take the screenshot using Game Bar instead of pressing "C": - Look for the camera icon 📸 in the Game Bar overlay (usually in the capture widget) - Click the camera icon to take your screenshot (you can also use the shortcut Windows key + Alt + PrtScn) 6. Your screenshots will automatically save to: This PC → Videos → Captures
IMPORTANT!!!
If the Game Bar keyboard shortcut (Windows key + Alt + PrtScn) isn't working: You can still click the camera button 📸 directly in the Game Bar overlay.
If your camera moves when you try to click the screenshot button: Just reposition your camera where you want it, then left-click once on the ground, around your sim or an area around your focal point (I would avoid clicking directly on your Sim as this may trigger other actions). This stabilizes the camera, and then you should be able to click the Game Bar camera button without the view shifting.
Hope this helps until EA fixes this bug! I tried it on a clean install without mods and cc and with and was able to get screenshots without it freezing.
I attached a screenshot of what to look for when opening up Game Bar: When you press Windows + G, the Game Bar will appear with several widgets. Look for the Capture widget (outlined in red) - the camera button inside (circled) is what you'll click instead of pressing C.
