Sims aging up too fast when switching between households

As the title suggests, my game has an issue where if I switch between played households, the other ages up considerably faster. I always play on a long lifespan but I do have a sense for how long I've been spending with one or the other. For example, I have Sim A 20% into their young adulthood, switch to Sim B's household for university play (2-3 Sim weeks), and when I go back to Sim A, they're just days away from adulthood. It doesn't make sense and messes up my gameplay.
