This is a great tool to do some storytelling. For instance, I have a sim who is married and has kids with his wife, but he's also got a second family as well. I like making them all in one family to set relations (to make sure the father gets the had baby milestone since that doesn't always appear after you add their relationship after initial cas). Problem is, wife and her kids are not supposed to "know" about the other woman and her kids. Hiding relationships can add to the illusion that they don't know each other (even though it's hidden), but it repeatedly showing up really breaks the immersion in my storytelling.
