Sims won't stay in bed/sleep

My sim energy need is in the red. Everytime I have them sleep or take a nap, they lay down then instantly get back up. I thought maybe it was an issue with the energy need staying red, but I had my Sim drink coffee and watched the energy bar go up some. The game recently updated to version 1.110.265.1030 DX11, and that is when it began. I have tried restarting the game, leaving the household and coming back, nothing is working.

There are several reasons for this. You can find some tips here: Sims won't sleep

This thread is if you have issues with any Sims, especially also single Sims

If you have this issue only for couple Sims where one gets up when the other goes to bed, please use this thread instead: Sims in Romantic Relationship Keep Getting Out of Bed (Patch 1.116.202) | EA Forums - 12315325

I have the same problem the other day. My sim will only sleep for few in game minutes then wake up immediately. I tried to take a nap on bed, outdoor bench, tried to go to the gym and nap on one of their sofa, none of it works. But i did manage to make my sim sleep by going to the motel (love struck). After a while playing, when i save and quit the game, the next time i come back, the sleeping issue is gone. I’m just sharing my experience, hopefully there will be a permanent fix to this issue.

If you queue up two sims to sleep in a double bed in a specific way (as described below) it will result in the second sim to route fail or instantly get up. To best understand, please see the attached video.

    Steps to recreate bug:

    • Both sims must be awake and like each other (wanting to sleep next to each other in the first place).
    • Have Lovestruck installed
    • Command both sims to sleep in the bed before either has entered the bed.

The first sim will reach the bed fine, but the second one will route fail or instantly get up.

As discovered by thepancake1, a likely cause is due to the original BG bed_sleep interaction being hidden once there is already a sim in bed, to be replaced by the Lovestruck interaction with the same display name. This would then cause the BG bed_sleep to be invalid for the second sim once they reach the bed resulting in a route fail.

    Mods/CC: Removed and tested without.

When fixed I expect the second sim to reach the bed to get in and sleep as commanded/expected.

  • my toddler has a toddler bed, changed twice, and keeps going to bed, then walking up seconds later, this has gone on for hours, and they are exhausted, they are fed, clean, happy, just wont sleep.

    what do i do  now

    wi81a5a3z2c0  Do you:

    • have a pet in the house that might be waking them
    • have any sort of radio or chimes nearby
    • see a sad moodlet on them (even if the dominant mood is happy) that says they had a nightmare
    • see the light sleeper quirk in their traits panel
    • have any other sims in the household trying to interact with them (I have had parent sims so determined to put their tired infant or toddler to bed that they repeatedly wake them up to do so unless I lock them out of the room)
  • After traveling to a different town, my sim came home and could not sleep more than 15-30 in-game minutes. No tv or radio, or any outside noise. Going to manage world and reentering fixed it momentarily but not permanently. This became a problem after the newest update.

  • If a Sim's Energy need is critically low but they have already gotten into bed, the Sim will wake up, get out of bed, and then pass out on the floor from exhaustion. The Sim in the screenshot just got into bed but immediately canceled the action to collapse on the floor nearby.

Core Issue: Contradictory AI behavior where Sims in bed with critically low Energy cancel sleep to immediately pass out.
Trigger: Energy need in "red" zone (critical) when the "Sleep" action begins.
    Observed Behavior:

    1. Sim with low Energy gets into bed
    2. Sim autonomously cancels the "Sleep" interaction
    3. Sim gets out of bed
    4. Sim passes out on the floor within seconds
Result: Sim ends up sleeping on the floor instead of in bed, despite being right next to a usable bed.

    Platform: PC (Steam/Ea app)

Citizens don't get up on their own right after sleeping, even when their needs are all in the red. However, I can sleep in my other beds. Some beds have this issue; for example, when the red bar goes to the yellow bar, they get up, but other beds are fine. I tried having other people sleep in them and it's the same. Even after changing to a new bed, it's still the same. I verified that even after removing mods from the game, the problem persists. Now I have two rooms: one bed can be slept in, the other cannot.

  • Hi All

I am a long term player 20 + years so I know the sims well.  Playings sims 4 currently and my sims are not sleeping the entire night. Can confirm - no mods, no electronics and its every household and every sim. Theres no music or pets. They are waking up when their bar isnt full and I have to put them back to bed maybe 2-3 times. Its only just happened recently.  Anyone else having this problem? Wondering if its an update issue?

    Thanks

On a new save file created after the 12.2025 update, I encountered this bug yesterday with my teenager: I can't get her to sleep. She wakes up after a short time, whether it's to "sleep" or "nap," even though her energy is low. This is a bug I've never encountered before. I should mention that I play without mods or custom content, and I haven't done anything unusual with the teenager. She was supposed to go to sleep after returning from her extracurricular activity. The household lives in a residential rental (Rent Pack).
