Had this issue a couple of times now, with quite a long gap in between issues. I had triplets age up, after I picked the trait (random) and aspiration of all three the first sim to age up did so 2 more times, from toddler to child with her siblings, then onto teen and now young adult before stopping.
I chose random trait for all of them but a different aspiration for each.
I did not organise a birthday party for them.
No obvious trigger for this issue.
