Is it not possible to DRASTICALLY reduce how much strangers come up to you to talk and partake in your current conversations uninvited? You end up with a relationship panel crowded by strangers even...

This must be a feature, as I don't recall a time when it didn't happen, but I don't think it should be! If the controlling Sim speaks to other Townies while on a date or event, fine. But I have taken Sims on dates where, in no time, the couple will be joined by 5 others in conversation, and it just makes it harder to play smoothly. Every chat function takes a {hot} minute to complete, so multiple conversation hijackers on a timed and rated event, really messes things up.
And I'm really loving planned, goal-oriented events lately. I wasn't into them at first, but they're really beneficial for a number of reasons! Anything to decrease snags when you're already planning a lot is important! And this isn't the first time I've rediscovered old features for new gameplay. It happens all the time. It's why I love this game!

It has always happened, just not to the extent that it is now. I don't know how to explain it, but at some point something shifted. It is probably partly because so far my sims have always been celebrities and they have always been fairly unapproachable. So people trying to butt in on a date or whatever was annoying but it didn't last long. Now it is perpetually aggravating because no sooner than I cancel a group conversation to refocus on the date or whatever, a new group conversation is immediately going and this should not be. These conversations override anything I direct my sim to do because they won't stop the current conversation and if I cancel it then they're immediately stuck in another. It is so difficult to get them to DO anything because of it. and it wasn't always this way. That I know for a fact.
