Is it not possible to DRASTICALLY reduce how much strangers come up to you to talk and partake in your current conversations uninvited? You end up with a relationship panel crowded by strangers even...

I have always thought that this is a bug because WE should decide who our Sims talk to and don't talk to. I feel like they could make it so player controlled Sims have a higher priority than townies. I also wish it was easier to say goodbye to a Sim because even without introductions a group conversation happens.
