For years I’ve noticed that my sim could write half a book and stop, but when I have them resume the same book it starts from the start. They can only write a book in one sitting with no breaks.

Yes, leaving the lot resets songs and so you have to basically complete the song in one session and it takes a long time!! I have had this issue a long time. I play on a Mac with mods. Books are ok but I do have a couple of mods that affect book writing, maybe protect that.
There’s also a mod for this. You just gotta cancel the action before leaving the lot for it to save!

Interaction Progress (like cooking or writing) will no longer start from the beginning after loading.
