Writer's Block moodlet not showing/Sims refuse to write for no reason

My sim has started writing several books, but each time I try to finish writing each book, it is removed from the action que without performing any additional work on the book.

I'm having an issue right now where my sim can start writing a novel, and she can finish it in one session if uninterrupted, but she can't pick it back up after putting it down – the "resume writing" action just cancels. (It's similar to the issue with knitting a while back, where you couldn't resume a project, but this was later corrected in a patch.)

No mods, no CC ever, playing on Mac. I have several expansion/game/stuff packs installed, lmk and I can list them if that would be helpful. 

The exact same thing is happening to me, my sim has 2 books she can't finish because of this.

Could you describe in more details what you are seeing ? Do you not have the resume option or do they just not write ? 

Sim is trying to complete ghost historian. They completed the first two horror books. They began writing the last one, and every time they sit at any computer, even a different lot, they do not start writing. They completed a childrens book, and still would not finish writing a horror book. I started a new horror book,and they also will not finish that one. I tried resetting, changing aspiration and then changing it back. Nothing works and they won't finish writing the horror book. 

I have the resume writing and when I choose one of the two books the sim walks over to the computer and sits down then immediately the action cancels and they do whatever they want or the next thing in the queue.

Yep, having the same issue. My Sim graduate college to earn her degree in writing and became a freelance writer. She has a gig due wihtin the next 4 hours and out of the blue, she just quit writing. When I reselected for her to resume writing, the cue comes up but then disappears again. 

I tried her doing this with another computer at another location on the lot and got the same thing. Now, if I cancel this gig it will greatly impact her perfect performance and reputation in this career. 

With so many errors cropping up since these latest "fixes" this game is no longer fun anymore. Why bother playing if it just keeps breaking? I have soooooo many "Last Exceptions" that I've lost count and... I don't use any mods at all in this game. Just not fair. 

Yep this has been an ongoing issue on and off for me for ages so much so I gave up even trying to have sims write books. But with the sim I'm playing right now I want him to write books to earn some money - Have tried twice and both times he's just stopped near the end of the writing session and unable to resume - like wasikm007 the cue comes up then disappears once the sim sits to begin.  Frustrating to say the least.
