Sims 4 lagging when choosing actions

I have the same issue, never used any mods or cc. It doesn't seem the suggested corrections worked for me. It doesn't only freeze the game, it messes up my whole computer. I can't return to windows, the task bar appears but the frozen sims windows overlaps. I can't force stop the game or open Origin, luckily it does let me restart the computer from the task bar, but nothing else. It lets me open task manager, but won't show the window because the frozen sims screen covers it. Very frustrating! I've tried the corrections suggested twice now, I'll do a third run still and hope for the best.

Anyone else have the problem that the whole computer jams?

As some background, I don't use any CC or mods and have all packs except First Pet Stuff.

  • @Bnibuilds I split your post from the rest as the thread was a bit oldish and solved and also moved your other post in here so that all the info is in one place.

Any particular moment when it freezes ? When you try to load a particular household/save or any ?

Try to update your Nvidia graphics drivers. Those are pretty old.

    Hi!

I updated the drivers but it didn't help. I'm also trying on lower graphic settings to enhance performance to see if that could help, but this far it hasn't affected. Also cleaned my game cache just in case and repaired the game in Origin.

It lets me open the game and save file just fine, but when I choose a household and press play, it freezes on the spinning plumbob. It doesn't matter which household it is.

I have a few save files in my game, so I'll check if it is a problem in only one of them or all, since I've only tried with my main save. The rest are older backups.

Ok, my older backup saves worked so it is definitely a corrupted save file in the works!

Any ideas if it can be fixed or is my only option to scrap that save file completely?

/Edit: I can also access lots in the corrupted save file if I go straight to live mode, so it is only played families that freezes the game.

@Bnibuilds I can take a look at your save to see how it behaves on my computer.

Just upload to google or onedrive and pm me the link.

@Bnibuilds Could you try if the following works for you. I didn't do any long time testing so I don't know if it's a permanent fix but I was able to load the brichester lots after this (did have the freezing/crashing you were describing)

Go to Sulani and load this household: Kealoha
Pick the girl to play. It should load

After that, go back to household manager and try loading your household in brichester again.

It works for me, there might be other households that have the same effect but with this one, it worked reproducibly for me.

Thanks! It worked for me as well. Although it doesn't fix the problem completely, it gives me a chance to save lots, families etc in the Library and move them over to a new file, so at least all gameplay isn't lost. I wish I knew what caused it so I could look out for it next time! Anyway, thanks for your time!

@Bnibuilds Are you saying there's still households you can't load ? Or does the issue come back after a while ?

It seems I always have to do the "quick fix" everytime I reopen this save, so it only fixes it until i close the game and then the next time the problem is there again.

@Bnibuilds Ah, didn't test that part. Sad to hear it fully fixed it.

It is probably best to just move everything to a new save if you're ok with that. You'll be loosing your inventory and relationships.
