Re: next gen consoles giving an advantage?

@PeterN_UK I would assume so as with Xbox you get smart delivery so your save file goes through the washer and gets spruced-up graphics & performance. With most games it’s at no additional cost... some games tho... (Looking at you EA) you need to pay.

@BaldWraithSimp if you’re old enough to think rationally, you have lived long enough to know life’s not fair... why should gaming be any different XD. But gamers... as the generalized public... are just too self conceited and criticize others who have better stuff and go against them xD.

LOLZ ‘Do you even gaming chair bro?!’ xD

@Koochi-Q The bottom bit that's my way of thinking, I've been fortunate enough to always afford the mid range stuff never the top monitor or top controller or top headset but always mid range.

Say fortunate because there's people below that have the low end stuff so yeah I get advantage over them the top guys they get advantage over me so know how if feels on both ends.

Just the way it is, we're not playing sonic in 16bit anymore it's a behemoth of an industry making unlimited money from giving people an edge.

Haha yes smart delivery. That is what PS needs. Many PS5 console players have been playing PS4 version of COD without noticing in error. Probably because graphics haven't changed for 5 years and it is still SAME engine updated used in Black Ops 3 in 2015.

Here is a small video of the kind of enjoyment you will get out of it. Trust me, this will help you to decide whether or not to play the game. Even less reason when Warzone is free now.

I agree with you. I feel next gen console hardware being only twice the performance of 6-7 years ago very underwhelming. They kept the specs low to make it affordable and try to market as high end PC level.

For first time ever now you have to make performance trade off on a console! So it shows alot of compromises made in hardware. See below as example.

@PeterN_UKYea true, but sony is doing it their own way but ultimately the publishers have the power and authority to apply next gen versions upon consoles.

Yea I saw the reports that it’s a hassle that you either have to double download all assets in (ps4 AND ps5 ones) to play the ps5 ones cause if you just download a game, it’ll download ps4 assets only XD. How could they have missed that xD.

This is the first time in years (if you exclude me not buying World at War and BO3) that I haven’t bought CoD at launch... I still have no idea if I’ll buy it but you know me, multiplats always go on xbox. PS5 is only for exclusives... of which I have non to play until next year in february I believe... so my console will collect dust basically from the get-go...

yea... golden times we live in... new consoles... old problems.

@CAGOA34 I usually buy top end stuff. Not because I want the edge necessarily but I’m a hard worker (LOLZ couldn’t say that with a straight face)... I was raised that if I wanted something I had to work for it from young age and that’s how I do life. If I like something, I buy it if I have the means for it. Higher priced electronics stuff tend to last longer and usually have separate ‘insurance’. Like if you buy bose audio instead of 20 bucks one... you get better ppl on the line who want to help you vs maybe not even having a helpdesk to help with enquiries xD

So has anyone who actually plays on a PS5 or Series X noticed a difference? My friend doesn't play Apex but plays Warzone and said his k/d has definitely gone up since he hooked up his series x...

@PeterN_UK Yeah but you dont get the frame drops on ps5? I mean on my ps4 I get drops into the 40s a lot. Especially overlooking anything with lots of stuff.

Surely that frame lock on next gen offers some improvement.

@hayhor Played a few games on PS5. Feels just as smooth as PS4 version. Sure PS4 dip to 45FPS every now and then but that is because I have 1st Gen PS4. I bet PS4 Pro performs and looks exactly same if I had one to compare.

Not really ground breaking if you know what I mean!

One thing for sure same resolution.

At this stage any PS4 games running on PS5 will look and perform same as PS4 Pro unless there are specific patches for it.

i.e. Battlefield 5 looks amazing on PS5 but it is because it is based on the PS4 Pro enhancements. But I had 1st Gen PS4 so to me it is more noticeable.

If someone's primary game is Apex then PS5 won't give you that wow factor. They're not missing out even if were unable to secure a new console at all.

@PeterN_UK Yeah I get you wont get a wow factor. I also have an original ps4. The frame drops happen A LOT more than I thought they did based on the little box respawn gave us. So to me, if the game locks at 60 fps that's a pretty good thing. I've seen staycation play on his ps5 and his looks like it never moves.

I have a friend who plays apex on a ps4 pro and he still gets plenty of frame drops.

It is definitely locked to 60fps and never falls below in worst case scenario.

Done a few hot drops with 4-5 other squads to test and never dips.

Would be interested enhancements they make for Apex in future.

@PeterN_UK That is good. Is it that noticable? I dunno but to me it will be better than nothing for now. Fortnite raised their output to 4k @60 hz for ps5 and 1080p @60 hz on xbox for release. No mention of 120 fps on it.

I hope apex goes the fps route over the resolution myself. Resolution is nice for racing games. Shooters need the frames.

    @hayhor

First thing you notice that ejecting and flight landing has no stuttering.

But to be honest when you're on the ground 45-60fps in the heat of battle not a game changer. Kind of felt the same. But you're right it is peace of mind 60fps means control input is smooth all the time.

Just wished they done a small patch to make it variable up to 120fps for sake of demo to really appreciate difference. No 4K option either. It is same resolution.

Well if in future they do patch - 4K does benefit even on a 1080p monitor by supersampling resolution. But there is already one console game where you're forced to choose 4K/30FPS vs 1080p/60fps.

But if I had better monitor and be able run Dirt rally at 120fps :D Damn that would feel insane. True FPS test.

AC Valhalla on dedicated PS5 edition. 60fps. No graphical options.

Watch Dogs Legion on dedicated PS5 edition. 4K/30fps..no other option. It had real ray tracing. Looks great but grr its 30fps and the character runs around janky. I would like to have option for 1080p/60fps and no ray tracing to avoid 30fps

I think with next gen if compromises have to be made then we should be given choice like PC players. 10/10 we go for FPS even in single player games. But this is down to developers.

Then there is this PS5 global setting. So vague on what are the specific compromises and gains here.

@PeterN_UK Thanks. If one of the stores let's me buy one I'll let you know what I see as a difference. Probably going to be 2021 by then tho.

@hayhor Sure thing. The best games won't be until next year anyway, never is at launch.

  • I have been playing on my Series S since launch and on Olympus the game ran at a fluid 60fps.  It would dip in the dropship below to the low 50s when looking at Rift and the mountain next to it.  Other then that it was solid.  However, Worlds Edge the frame rate has been tanking to like the mid 40s, especially in Capital City.  Even in the dropship the fps gets pretty bad.  I think more optimization needs to be done, at least for the series s.  I am playing on a 1080p monitor so its not rendering at 1440p.  Apex needs a lot of cpu speed from what I hear so hopefully the zen2 will help with that.

I’ve upgraded from a day 1 Xbox one to the series x and difference is huge. The frame rate hasn’t gone up obviously but I’m order to run at 60 FPS the older Xbox one had to reduce the resolution a lot. I reckon it wasn’t even 720p. I had problems seeing enemies at distance. My tv tells me the signal it is receiving is now 4K and the hdr makes a huge difference to the quality of the visuals.

    hope that info helps.
