Re: My pc shuts down when I run Apex Legends.

Hey @Buyable8 seeing a number of errors there so the first thing to do is go ahead and run System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files:https://support.microsoft.com/en-ie/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-o...

I'd also recommend looking for updated drivers for your GPU and there is no harm in creating a new Windows admin account and trying the game there to see if you see the same issue.

Let us know how you get on.

  • @EA_Darko I did the scannow command and it said "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

and i had the same issue when i went on my other windows admin account didn't work either and i have already  rolled back drivers, updated them, I think I have tried nearly everything

Edit: I realy dont think Its a hardware issue because I set my monitors res to 800 by 600 and it still crashes. and I limited the fps to 30 in origin. still could be my hardrive tho but every other big game works so...

@Buyable8 I'm not an expert, so these are just general suggestions and not ones to take if you are not familier with the insides of a computer. It really sounds like a HD problem to me, but it's v difficult to say at this remove.

Is there enough ventilation/heat dissipation around your rig, cpu?

Inside are the fans clean? Are the vents in the rig dust free.

Have you tried playing the game with the side panels off to see if there is a difference?

Did you partition your drive and reinstall apex on the new partition?

Is the drive vertical or horizontal, try it on the opposite one.

Try with the drive outside the rig.

Is there clutter around the drive internally?

Is the cable connection to the HD secure?

Is the cable connection to the mb secure?

    Is your ram securely placed?

@Buyable8 just an afterthought, my son's pc games would crash (but not Windows) and in the end after 2 days of troubleshooting we found a very simple problem. The games would crash after 20 min or so constantly.

The solution was to totally disable hard drive auto-shutdown. Some update had reset this as I'm sure I had it off from when we first got his pc.

    Edit power plan

    Change advanced settings

    Expand HD section

    Expand turn off hd after

Change both battery and plugged in to "never"

    Apply

    Ok

I got this rig a month ago and built it then so I dont think there is enough dust to give heating issues.

But I run cinebench and get 83 Celsius without my pc shutting down and when i Launch apex I gets to around 80

    https://imgur.com/a/RkdMm57

this one is cinebench running for 10 min if my cpu was overheating then this would shut down my pc but It hasn't and I've done around 5 tests of this for 10 min, gpu's have their own cooling and my gpu exceeds requirments for apex so it might be faulty?

    https://imgur.com/a/6zjDeuu

this is on startup of apex normally right before it shuts down is when I took that photo but its hard to get a photo when im scared of shutting down but normally it get up to 80 temp just like cinebench

@Buyable8 just an observation on those photos, the fan on the cpu is n/a and on the gpu is 0 rpm. Are the fans working? Connected correctly?

Could it be that the system cannot detect the fans working and a failsafe switches the HD off?

The picture of when apex was a bad picture so ignore that one, but for the cinebench one It is not using the gpu so it doesnt spin the fans, which is normal but when i Took the apex starting up picture It was right before they started spinning, but they do spin and the cpu cooler That I have is a liquid cooler and they do spin but I dont think they are clasified as a cpu cooler fan

    https://imgur.com/a/CR1z7PS

here is a picture of my fan connectors

  • Idk what happened but it worked, I think It might be because when It started up It might be a power surge thing because my CPU would instantly, when starting up apex, go to 100% usage and that probably causes power issues so what i did (which i had done before) was tab out when Its starting up but i tried this before. So i have no clue what fixed it but thanks for helping

one thing I did do thought was it actually repaired the game files when I never messed with them and it didn't work but when i accidently started apex I tabbed out to try to get to task manager to close it  but realized that the EA audio on the intro EA thing stopped and it was fine (because normally it would crash right after the EA thing)

SO i still have no idea what fixed it.

@Buyable8 that's great news. I would make a note of everything you have done since yesterday jic it happens again so you have your own troubleshooting list to go through.

See you on the field 🙌

everything I've done is what was said on this thread so thanks, really do appreciate it because I messed up my build somehow and had to take it into somewhere to fix it and it took a few weeks so I really thought i would have to do that again but thanks to your help I dont,

just got a 3k damage game too!

So tabbing out did nothing like I had thought but I got to play the game for a good amount of time this morning and the day before but when later that morning I closed Apex. Then the same problem is still happening, but those times I played were a long period of time like around 3-4 hours at once. So this makes me think my pc can run the game perfectly fine. I went into widows event viewer and saw the error was this

    https://imgur.com/ynDWYg5

event ID 41 kernel-power (this would happen seconds after i open Apex) IDK why I can sometimes (seemly at random ) play the game fine and others not be able to get past the first screen

@Buyable8 are the fans in you pcu running, is you pcu able to deliver enough power to run the rig? It might be best to take it back to the shop that fixed it, tell them they didn't, show them the issue happening and make sure it dosnt happen when it comes back "fixed".

Is it still the same immediate HD shutdown fault

@OldTreeCreeper yes the psu fan is spinning (I took it out of the case to see) and I was planning on getting a 3070 so I had got a psu with more power than my rig needed 850 80+ gold so I think It can supply a Ryzen 7 5800 which says its a 105 watt tdp and a Radeon 5500xt which has a 130 watt tdp. don't know much about psu's but I think this would be above what's needed

and my apex legends is on my SSD just to make sure it wasn't my hard drive

@DoYaSeeMe no I don't have one of those cases I have a lian li lancool 2 mesh

  • @Buyable8 Maybe a rebuild would work. It's possible that the cooler or other components are not installed properly and cause an overheat or a short somewhere. Can also be a faulty cpu temperature sensor.

Try some other benchmark tools, preferably something that can stress the pc for a longer period of time (10 minutes or so).

I used cinebench multicore test twice for 10 minutes, and it got to 80 c at most. and I ran furmark tests and my gpu got to 65 c. so my cooling is fine.

so I don't thinks it my cpu or gpu but I have ran games like r6 siege on 1440p ultra settings and my pc doesn't shut down then and my apex settings are on the lowest on everything

any stress tests that stress both cpu and gpu at same time that you can recommend

@Buyable8 if apex is on your ssd, what happens if you switch off pc and unplug for 20 sec, then disconnect your HD and restart? Do you get the same crash running apex with the HD disconnected?

  • This site tomshardware.com has alot of knowledgeable people who are very helpful,go there and post your full build and the problems you are having,I'm sure they can get to the root of your problem.

@Buyable8 tbh with apex having run for a few hours a few days ago, I don't think it is a software issue. From what you say there isn't a problem with heat. The drives appear to be functioning normally.

The fact that the issue is intermittent suggests a loose wire or loose connection somewhere that is causing the  insta shutdown of the system, an inbuilt safety shutdown

So I just got a new PSU (a corsair one) so there is almost no way its my PSU and it still doesn't work
