BUFF CAUSTIC

As a Caustic main from since he has been released, there has been only a few changes to his character.  Most of these changes have come in the form of nerfs which is not ok.  Caustic needs either a rework in itself or some serious buffs because every time you are in close quarters combat it feels like the enemy doesn't care about his traps or gas.

I believe either 1 or 2 things need to be changed to truly make Caustic someone to be feared in close quarters or at least balance out his beefy build against quicker and leaner legend's

  1. Make his initial gas trap damage higher. There was a time when his trap damage started at 10 dmg/sec. This was perfect and enemies really had to question if pushing or engaging was worth the trouble.
  2. Make his initial gas start at 5 damage then after each second pass it increases and continues to increase until the enemy leaves the gas area.

Please make these changes because with a very low pick rate, Caustic is dying as a character. If there are any other ideas on how to improve Caustic I would love to hear them but as of now, he needs some help.

  • I love playing the gas man myself. I absolutely agree that the gas damage can feel very underwhelming, especially when most meta legends have movement abilities allowing them to move through the gas with little consequence. Old school caustic was not to be trifled with. I don’t know if a rework is absolutely necessary but here are my thoughts.

    • first and foremost the gun reload needs to be remapped similar to rampart so you can reload while taking cover behind a gas can.

    • secondly caustic’s level up perks are next to useless. Throwing cans farther goes against a defensive play style. Upgrade to nox vision is almost unnoticeable as the nox vision itself is a ridiculously sad passive when compared to other passive perks. The 50% increase in ultimate size feels weak when it takes so long for the nade to go off when hitting the ground. And the gain of health in gas is laughable.

I think caustic could be feared again if his level up perks were actually applicable to the game.

potential perks that fit with mad scientist persona: custom toxin choices

    • nox gas blurs or blinds vision like Bangalore or Gibraltar or Catalyst ult

    • movement speed penalty persists even after leaving gas

    • option for two or three smaller gas nades instead of one big one.

    • nox gas can be ignited with a thermite nade for fun explosive burst damage.

  • Forget they'll do anything with Caustic. They've been ignoring him and the entire community of this game for many seasons.

Caustic will get a buff if there's something to sell for him to make a better profit like it will be with Wattson. They don't care about this game anymore. They just want to squeeze every $ they can out of it.

  • Yeah I don't know why (maybe to make game more dynamic) they nerfed Caustic's gas damage plus most importantly removed slow effect from it. Since then he is just useless, only thing he can do is scare the crap out of you when you suddenly run into a gas barrel - did so last week and was like "wtf is that... already forgot that legend exist" :D

So imo they for sure need to revert damage and slow effects back to previous state + add a bit more durability to barrels which are triggered.

Nox vision - I still don't get it how it suppose to work, I feel as blind as caustic as playing vs him = basically a bit hindered. Gas should be 1:1 like Bangs smoke just doing damage and Nox vision should be = wallhack. Same as e.g. in firing range you see bot outlines through smoke, Catalyst wall etc.

Then he is good to go as is.

Above mentioned ideas of multiple nades, bigger ult surface area, gas+termite = big bang - sure, sing me up, we will have another Fuse in the game :)

p.s. based on leaked info they actually will buff Caustic and Seer next season? or maybe already this split.

I agree with the Caustic sight issue, it appears that the enemy sees you just as much as you see them... wallhacks and radar maybe?

I also think that Fuse needs an adjustment... his time to cycle knuckle clusters is really slow. That animation gets me killed a lot due to the lag. Should work similar to Ash throwing a snare. Also, the cluster should stick to the enemy, like the arrow or arc star,  if you hit them with it the cluster bounces off and they run through it.

  • The gas is described as both bad for lungs, and an aerosol acid which is why the synthetics/robots still care. It should do damage for a brief period after leaving it as well, AND AFFECT ARMOR AT THE SAME RATE.

Then the W-key players might actually care and it would let him, you know, CONTROL an area.

  • So Caustic will get a buff... It's a shame it's nothing significant, because the developers don't understand the exact problem with Caustic's game...

The problem is that the gas deals too little damage and doesn't slow you down. Enemies pass through it and don't care.

What Respawn does -> give Caustic two extra barrels.

Sometimes I feel like I'm playing in a cabaret show, not a game run by "serious" companies.

If money is the issue then I'll buy Caustic stuff if they decide to buff him. I just want/need him buffed already

Much more than that, see some of the streamers who were testing the new version.  It slows now too, has higher radius, higher activiation area and you can potentially get all 4 upgrades on your shield tree.  I don't know about the damage yet though but I'll be switching back to him to try it out.

Bangalore can pretty much counter anything though so I think she'll be pretty broken next season.  Expect to see smoke everywhere like you did Seer domes on day 1 of Seer
