Re: For God's sake...stop dropping in fragments!

Hot dropping is not what the devs/mode's intention on how people should play BR but trigger happy players will always go to where there are people. Even if you remove the whole of fragment, people will just migrate to the next big POI and that will be the new hot drop (probably Lava Siphon). You can see this in Olympus where people drop to the nearest hot drop depending on the drop ship. If the dropship starts near Bonsai, then at least 5-10 squads will drop there. Same goes if the drop ship starts at the side of the PowerGrid/Fight Night area or Estates.

Again, I'm not saying that hot dropping in fragment is the way you should play BR pubs but this could be the reason why. I'll share why my friends and I hot drop in fragment. We drop in fragment with no intention to win the whole game but to just kill people. Since there's no TDM-like mode in apex where you can just shoot shoot shoot, this is the only casual way of playing for some. Same goes when we drop in Estates in Olympus (I miss this map so much) where it's like a mini game inside the game who would be the last man standing in that POI. I'm not defending hot droppers I'm just stating a possible reason why they're doing it. With that, we definitely need a more casual mode in apex like what Winter Express is where you can just shoot. Even though we drop at fragment 60-70% of our pub games, we're not dumb enough to go to the streamer building on drop where the RNG would determine your fate. Market, broken, construction, and 4 stories is the better half of Fragment. Hot dropping in my case is something unanimously decided since I'm in a pre-made squad and something that I don't do when I soloQ. I drop at semi-hot drops like countdow, lava siphon or launch site in WE.

    @jokool_aid

As you get higher in Rank in Ranked hot dropping should cool off. D4 could be the exception though. about 1 in 8 games I will hot drop Frag with my friends.

Hot dropping does have its uses, also there is hot dropping (dropping with 4-5 teams) and hot dropping (dropping with 1-2 teams).

1-2 teams can be good 4-5 is almost always not good.

    Some reasons for hot dropping:

So in Bronze quick KP and out plus sharpening CC skills no loss of RP.

So in Silver almost the same since RP loss is negligible.

So in Gold it starts to get interesting and maybe not drop with 1-2 other teams but with 1 or close to 1 for quick RP and then play placement.

Plat lobbies are sweaty no matter what.

Those that reach Diamond are either good enough and have enough time for the climb to master or are hard stuck D4's. The hard stuck D4's are a salty bunch in my experience and will hot drop in a heartbeat for quick games and the adrenaline, it's not like they can be de-ranked. Maybe Rank protection needs to be removed?

In all actuality when I play with my teammates depending on how we are playing that day, what Rank we are, what map etc we decide on drops from cold to warm to hot to superhot but we decide and play it as a team.

    @Cheese9Man

Well said and pretty much what I do with my friends (we decide as a team).

@Cheese9Man I actually don't mind if the hot drop POI changes. It is the monotony of Fragment because it is accessible to every drop ship path. At least you get a change of scenery on Olympus while your are repeatedly hot dropping and getting melted.

@Cheese9Man The hot dropping in fragment is worse than other maps. Yes people still hot drop but you don't get 15 teams going to spots in the others.

@hayhor Labs and Estates/Gardens can be pretty bad too. Labs 🤡 where everyone wants to land on the portal thing, so you can enter a room where there are like 6 items on the floor. How ******* stupid is it possible to be?

I have started quitting games when people land there. I hate it.

I just usually go off solo to a side spot, grab gear, then if they are still alive, rotate in and try and 3rd party some baddies.

If they are dead, I rat to 10th place for the XP, then drop.

@Cheese9ManI'm okay with Labs, but not with half the lobby. 🤡 One place I refuse to land though is Bunker. Even if we are alone. There's no loot!!! That means I often would have to go to a secondary POI to continue the looting instead of fighting, if we survive the neighbouring team who's like "let's go push these dumb***es at Bunker, they gotta be low on everything". Dumb POI.

@Cheese9Man I 100% agree with what you said.

However, I know removing fragments won't solve the problem (like you said, Lava Siphon is the next big POI), but I still think it'll help. It's a large portion of the center of the map, and nearly every game either ends up there or rotates through there, so public matches usually have 15+ squads dropping there and dying in the first 5 minutes, then you're left either waiting in fragments for the other handful of teams that didn't drop there to come to you, or you're one of the handful of teams that has to run there to see the last big scrap at the end of the game.

And yeah, I know how hellish Estates can be in Olympus. Olympus is still a bit more forgiving since you have a bit more variety on where to hot drop if you want to (labs, boxing ring, plaza, etc.).

There will always be a ‘Fragments’ on every map, a place where everyone wants to go.  It is a problem in a game where you don’t get the best loot everywhere and clusters areas of fights.

This is why unless I’m with friends I drop alone, and why the mechanic is in the game as far as I can tell. Apex is a terrible game for public teams.

I don’t understand hot dropping but I do understand dropping at first chance. If you like playing load screen, might as well shorten the trip on the ship.

What can Respawn do about hot dropping and 3/4 of the lobby dying even before round 1 is finished? Any suggestions?

Here are some that I've read in here or in other platforms (reddit/twitter):
    1. Have multiple drop ships by dividing the whole lobby by 2 or 3. So that you spread the lobby more.
    2. For WE, I saw someone say to reduce the loot in Fragment significantly so that people wouldn't initially drop there. The scenario would be teams would have small fights against 1-3 squads in the peripheral POIs and then in round 2-3 people will converge in fragment.

Also, it still confuses me why people say they miss Skull town so much and yet hate Frag at the same time. Both POIs attract a lot of hot droppers. We saw this in the S9 Genesis event.

@CCbathwater Those aren't nearly as bad tho. You dont get 15 teams at either one.

SP has that hole that is worse than the portal. My friends know if they drop inside that I put the controller down.

@Cheese9Man "What can Respawn do about hot dropping and 3/4 of the lobby dying even before round 1 is finished? Any suggestions?"

Like you mentioned, the multiple drop ships is one way to help.

Maybe even have it where the drop ships are like what we see in Winter Express, where squads are floating above a certain point randomly chosen and spread out a bit across the map. Or maybe just have random spawn rooms across the map?

I'd suggest maybe a way to pick where your team spawns in with these methods, but that would probably cause another cluster of teams dropping in one spot. A way to counter that would be a system where only a few people can select one area, maybe like pick a location, and you get a perimeter around you where other teams can't pick, but then you could get locked out of picking anywhere with loot, so you'd have a scramble of first come first, served players.

Another idea with the spawn locations: Pick one of a number of set locations, and only x number of teams can pick but, again, this could be problematic, or flat out make them worse if too many people are forced to drop in the same locations...

It's tough trying to make a system like this work, especially since other BR games have had this problem. I remember trying Fortnite around when it first came out, and literally everyone would go for one location: Tilted Towers. I haven't kept up with Fortnite in ages, so IDK how they've balanced their maps, though, I do know they change them frequently.

@Cheese9Man I've been thinking about it and there's not much that will stop hot drop Henry and friends unless the drop ship has seperate drop times and landing locations per squad, preset by random selection. Kinda like dividing the map up with barriers for a minute to allow everyone to kit up and then start to move. But I can't see that happening.

@Cheese9Man there was a serious hot drop called tilted towers a few seasons back in a previous map, have seen up to 20 of 100 hitting it in solo) . Since then there hasn't been such a large poi. But I think it may be making a comeback and is hidden under the ice at the moment and will reappear once the ice melts. So it will be interesting to see what happens.

Fortnite poi's are smaller and more spread out so you get a much wider spread in the drop. In squad pubs 2 maby 3 or 4 squads going to the same poi, but really nowhere gets really congested like fragment. Same in duo, solos you might have 8-10 hitting the same poi. Loot is more spread out too, found almost anywhere.

I did grind up to champion level in fortnite ranked and what I noticed was that up to 85 out of the 100 dropped in the first half of the bus's flight path. The numbers dropped rapidly in the first few minutes, points for kills. That was solo and again what was left seemed very spred out.

I guess the larger the poi the more will center on it. I've had 20 kills solo in squads (not a Smurf account 😃) , but there are no badges or rewards for kills so the focus is very much on the br win. Leader boards also seem to focus on the win numbers. They now have a new emote that is a counter for 2 wins in a row.

I kid you not, I just had 6 games in a row where the jumpmaster dropped fragment. I quit each one before landing. I'm seriously done with this map.

@aisthebestletter I refuse to quit, and go for a wander. You have 5 seconds to press jump solo, that's plenty of warning to the jm to choose a better drop, but they don't, even in ranked.
