Re: Squads are not full. Again.

They can't fix this because most of the times it's a network issue. Some players fail to connect or time out when connecting to the match server (congestion, bad routing, etc.). Things are fine when in the main lobby because that connection is very different, way less sensitive and less of a bandwidth eater.

What they are working on and might reduce this missing squadmates issue is bandwidth optimization. But i wouldn't get my hopes up, there's not that much room for improvements as these guys are well experienced and what they made so far is already pretty close to the limit of what can be done.

  • I had a 2 v 3 last night on RANKED Arenas. I mean, what were our chances?

    Thankfully, it did not count towards my evaluation rank, but the OH SO SIMPLE solution would be to kick all players back to the lobby if six players are not present when the 'store' pops up AS MOST OTHER GAMES DO.

  • @EdwardDLuffy that's an annoying part as well. I mean it's good that we are not punished with point for mistakes of the matchmaking system. However, it does punish with time, which is more painful in my opinion. All players simultaneously lose several minutes because of that. Many would lose desire to play.
  • @DoYaSeeMe thanks for the insights. it's sad if what you said it's true. the game has great mechanics, but all these things are just very sad. I have quite an experience in gaming including various battle royal games. So far, it's the only game that has had issues of this sort.

    @Revanchist_KOR It's also a matter of attacks / hacks / players leaving on purpose. I think these increase the frequency of missing teammates significantly.

    @OldTreeCreeper It's too difficult (if not impossible) to predetermine connection stability. Also, hosting a game on a lobby server or having the queues on the match server are not possible, for a lot of reasons.

    @DoYaSeeMe thank you. Notwithstanding predetermining connection stability, could an AI of some description not just look at the arena ranked or ranked game a nanno second before the off and if there arnt full squads, return the players to the lobby? It seems self defeating and costly to run a waste of time game, esp if it is happening in the numbers being reported and experienced? Or is it less costly to let the game run its course?

    They added delay after we entering the game, probably they run some performance/testing in the background.

    Finding all 60 players for BR could be challenging, I understand that.

    But finding 6 players for Arena, can't be that hard right ??

  • The thing that you don't see is that disconnected players don't always stop sending data completely. Sometimes a few bits of information do arrive, with a delay small enough to not cause a timeout right away. In reality, there can be minutes until a connection dies completely, some of those resulting in legends that stop moving all of a sudden.

    Throwing all people out when someone fails to connect can consume precious time and become very frustrating at some point. Players would still blame devs for the failed connections anyway. Personally, I prefer the way it is now, rather than getting re-queued. I even won a few arena matches playing 2 v 3, the best one being a 3-0 against a full premade squad

  • @asukojo You can't really predict how someone's connection will behave. Respawn doesn't have control over the whole internet and certainly cannot fix it.

    @DoYaSeeMe I had one of those stop moving legends the other evening, but it was a very odd one that I haven't seen before. They dc for whatever reason and stayed at about 20 foot off the floor with a big white light around them. They were there for ages.

    @pandareno1999You're welcome, thanks for taking the time to read the nerdy stuff. The idea is to fight disappointment and frustration with knowledge. It's not about defending devs, but more about bringing down expectations to a realistic level.

  • Had three games in a row in Ranked Arenas last night where either my squad or the enemy squad was a player down from the off. Stupid.

    In the last of these games (on Overflow) me and Octane just kept having races to see who could jump off the map first.
