Re: Goodbye Apex Mobile

@Cro_Pittt Why would they refund it? Again, when you load coins you do so at your discretion. I have 6k apex coins sitting right now. They could shut it down tomorrow and I couldn't do a thing about it.

The only thing that would be shady at this point is if they kept selling stuff after the announcement.

  • @hayhor It's at your discretion but it's still a disrespectful thing to do. I invested some money in the game and now you don't even give me the chance to actually get something from it?

Other games refunded all the bought items when they shut down their servers.

@Cro_Pittt I don't think it's right to keep everything. I don't know other games situations. I remember Google stadia and Google refunding people BUT only people that bought through the Google store.

So where would you draw the line with this? Refund all 40 million spent? Refund only stuff bought within the last couple months? Refund only the unspent coins, minus free BP coins?

    Well just to note.

It's not like you're actually investing in the game, you're buying cosmetics, not shares.

Companies are built to make money, they're not a bank.

It's not exactly like they're just going to refund all the profit they made, it would be illogical to make games at that point.

The game is free, the main source of income would be microtransactions... apart from losing all their profits it would literally mean the game they developed ended up costing them money to make.

Keeping up the game would mean paying for server costs too and possibly some licensing with the platforms and other things.

I do agree that games shouldn't be taken away, though that pretty much only applies to games that support single-player... it's quite normal for online games to lose support eventually.

Some projects can stay up for longer, but if it's been projected that it's not doing so great, it's better to get rid of the project before it becomes too much of an issue.

  • Same thing happened with Diablo. They announced they have a great new $$ scam, not a game that players asked for. Sure you don’t have to buy the cosmetics, but I bet there is some deep psychology that prevents a certain type of person from doing so. I put in at least $10 for the first battlepass I bought and had to buy another because I wasn’t able to finish a season somewhere in there. $20 isn’t much but everyone’s always seems to have the new cosmetics running around.

  • @hayhor It depends on the amount of respect you have for your playerbase and the goodwill you want them to maintain towards future games from your brand.

As mentioned by someone else, Epic is in the exact same situation with Rumbleverse (8 months) and they're refunding it all. Everything. BPs, coins, the whole shebang.
Marvel Avengers is ceasing development and stopping sales in March, and while not refunding anything, they are unlocking everything and leaving the game up from people to enjoy.
If Respawn wanted to conserve a shred of decency, it would simply leave the game up for 6 months to a year after shutting down development.
The next most respectful thing would be to refund players from 3 months ago, so that anyone purchasing would at least have six months to enjoy their purchases.
At minimum (including a smidgeon of intelligence) they should refund anyone who bought the recent collection event (2 months ago) and obtained the Fade heirloom on a case by case basis. Imagine how you would feel to spend $160 for nothing. Considering that these are likely well-to-do players who would support other Respawn games in the future, I would think that refunding a few thousand dollars would be just smart business.
I mean, seriously, I had a $5 container of yogurt that the seal was broken on. Complained to the company and they sent me coupons for $150 worth of yogurt. They weren't like, "hey, show us the proof that you didn't open the seal yourself or it may have been the store's fault, blah, blah, blah."
  • Personally I've never played the mobile version mostly because as  someone whose eyesight isn't exactly the best currently playing the main game on a 30" tv (I'm still looking for bigger 120hz tv ) & finding it a bit of a chore visually playing so the option of playing on the mobile version an even smaller screen was always going to be a no-no for me.And so I can iterate what I've heard about about the game through youtubers & other commenters have mentioned about the exclusive characters not in the main game, more modes & generally more thought & ideas put into the moblie version compared to the main game.Ideally (& logically) I would like to think that the devs & other employees involved in the mobile version could/would transition over to the main game to focus on other modes & ideas  that the main game desperately needs. But the reality is do EA/Respawn see Apex as an expansive game looking to appeal to a bigger audience (which means more investment, offering more game modes,a proper next gen upgrade & better servers) or are they merely content with a small game mindset offering only a minimum of modes (like removing Arenas for Control) is no way going to expand the games player-base any time soon as S15 (a season that has been as dry as a camels armpit) has proved with various youtubers, pro players & casual gamers deserting the game en masse.
