Dead Space Remake only running on Integrated Graphics

Hi, I started having this issue on my laptop I recently purchased. It's a Dell G15 (Ryzen 5 6600H CPU/RTX 3050 GPU). It doesn't happen on any other games besides the two EA games I've tried playing on it, which is Dead Space Remake and Battlefield 2042. Both games refuse to utilize my GPU at all and instead only use my CPU's Integrated Graphics. I've tried every suggestion under the sun from reinstalling drivers to changing settings in Nvidia Control Panel. I don't have this issue with any other game, and I also have only had this issue on this laptop, as I played DSR on my previous Intel/Nvidia laptop with no issues. I've seen posts about this issue with other EA games, especially FIFA games, so I'm assuming it's not an issue on my end. Those posts were from 2021/2022, yet I never really found a working solution. Is there anyone who can help or do I just not play EA games on this laptop?

  • I had this problem also, but I found a solution.
From what I understand, it seems that when you're using rtx 3050 ti and you allocate 4gb ram for your integrated gpu, the game picked the integrated gpu because it has "more vram" than the rtx 3050 ti (VRAM of rtx 3050 ti isn't intepreted as exactly 4gb, but 3.9gb). Therefore a solution to this is to go to your laptop bios, and change the allocated ram for integrated gpu to be less than 4gb.
In my case, I allocate 2GB VRAM for my integrated gpu, therefore the game will pick the rtx 3050 ti as it has more vram than integrated gpu.
    Hope this helps!

HI @Xbte96X To confirm can we check what you have set for the following locations?

    • Open Nvidia Control Panel > Select 3D settings > Manage 3D settings > Program settings > Preferred graphics processor for Dead Space > Save changes
    • Open Windows settings > Select Gaming > Graphics > Dead Space > Set to high-performance RTX
    • Also, make sure you don't have any power-saving modes enabled (that might limit performance) and that you are plugged into your charger.

If the game continues having performance issues would it be possible to test the game on a new user account and check if issues continue?

I can confirm I changed these settings and it didn't fix the issue. I will try anything you suggest. Also, I know this is for Dead Space, but this same exact issue happens in Battlefield 2042. The only difference is I run Dead Space on Steam and Battlefield on the EA App, but they both have the same issue. Thank you for responding, I appreciate whatever you can do.

Hi @Xbte96X Apologies for the delay, I've tried looking into this further and checking my laptop if I could see this happen.

Can you check a few areas for me?

    • Make sure in the device manager that Nvidia isn't giving an option to "enable" over disable
    • Check any security software you use isn't quarantining the games or files from their installs.
    • Check you have the latest "game drivers" for the Nvidia card versus the studio drivers
    • Check if you have a power plan on or have windows set to energy saving over performance.

If all of these check out, can we try the following?

  • Hey, well I am having the same exact issue,  I already use all the suggestions you just gave,

the game refuses to launch with the dedicated graphic cards

I can open anything else and it runs with my nvidia 3050ti

but at the moment I started dead space remake, it runs  with the radeon gpu that came with the laptop

    a have a Lenovo gaming

    ryzen 5

    24 gb ram

    nvidia RTX 3050ti

i already try all internet suggestions but the game refuse to work with the Nvidia gpu

and as you can imagine is unplayable like that

Unfortunately it seems like none of these solutions worked. It's very odd because it works perfectly fine on my Desktop with an AMD GPU and CPU, and on my previous laptop with an Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU. From what I've seen this tends to be an issue with laptops that have Nvidia GPUs and AMD CPUs, at least from what I've seen. Must be some strange interaction between the two with newer EA games because I tested Battlefield 5 as well as Dead Space 2 and 3 and this same issue never happened. Only on the two more modern EA games, Dead Space Remake and Battlefield 2042. Hopefully there's a fix for this soon.

I saw a few people mention this, so I may try it out, but tbh I just deleted the games because I don't want to have to mess around with things more. It's a pain and not worth the trouble when I can just play on my Desktop. But if I do this and find success with it, I'll come back and let everyone know. Thanks for the tip.

Hi @ghhgafzan To confirm did this resolve the issue so far for you?

I've been trying to get this to happen on my personal laptop that has an AMD CPU and 3070 GPU but it seems to be working correctly.

  • I tried and indeed it works

you need to go to the computer bios an change the ram intended to work for your integrated graphic below of what your dedicated card has

for example if your NVIDIA card has 4 gb of ram you need to Change the integrated card gb below It I switch 2gb

because the game select the card to use based on which one has more video ram.

which it should not be, is even ignoring windows settings.
    anyway

    that fix it

but it’s crappy from to EA code the game like that

not everyone knows or is willing to mess with the bios

it looks like this is something EA needs to fix

  • The only way to fix this is to change the VRAM in BIOS. It's an error specific to EA games and they never fix it. Check the FIFA forums and you'll see the same issue reported.
