Offline mode requires an internet connection

Product: The EA app
Platform:PC
Error Report ID (learn how to create an Error Report ID in the sticky post) 55907c46-c6f6-4f96-bd0c-633e7dc8d293
Which client functionality are you experiencing this bug with? Other (Please Describe)
Please describe Offline mode
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 05.04.23
Summarize your bug I put the app in offline mode, disconnect from the internet, and a few hours later a popup comes up saying I'll have to login again because the app couldn't connect. The same popup occurs if I disconnect from the internet when the app is not in offline mode.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? 1. Launch the app 2. Tell it to go offline 3. Disconnect from the internet 4. Wait however long it takes for the app to give up trying to connect and logs you out.
What happens when the bug occurs? I get logged out of the app and have to connect and log back in.
What do you expect to see? An offline mode that actually works offline.

The app does the same thing whether I'm in offline mode or not so I no longer bother to try it. I just disconnect every night and figure I'll have to login again the next day. Offline mode shouldn't need to connect every few hours, it should work for at least a week, otherwise it's not an OFFLINE mode.

  • This has actually only recently started happening to me. I have weak internet and only keep active what absolutely NEEDS to be and as all my games are downloaded I don't need to be online to play any of my Sims games. So what I do is pull up the EA app, make sure Sims 4 is up to date and then select "go offline", it gives me the warning and then its offline and I pull up the launcher for (usually lately) for Sims 3. On my days off I play for many times a good 8 hours this way and until this past week had no problems. Now, anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour after starting to play, it comes back saying the EA app had an error and needs to be restarted at which point I have to completely login again.

I feel this is due to an update in the app as it has just started recently and is being aggressive about it. I should not need to stay online to play these games. Honestly, I do not understand why I need the app to play Sims 2, Sims 3, and Sims Medieval at all. Really Sims 4 as well but I'll let that one go.

Overall, I fully agree with the original poster, we need the app to work in offline mode. Not everyone has robust internet that they can keep the app functioning all the time. The app should not think there is an error if we SELECT to go into offline mode and play without internet.

  • No problems with playing offline (With EA App) until a day ago.

    Forced EA App update.

    Who knows why.

    It doesn't tell me.

I didn't need the update in the first place.

The "features" are useless to me.

Now all of a sudden logging in, then going offline causes the EA App to quit while notifying me that it can't access the internet.

    Who knows why.

    It doesn't tell me.

I imagine that an error code would be helpful but you aren't bothered to supply one so I guess you aren't getting one.

Done wasting money on games that I can't launch directly.

    Additional info edit:

So an error code finally popped up: EC:10501

Why is your app trying to access the internet when I'm purposefully in offline mode?

It's all pointless now because EA App won't even load my library.
