This has actually only recently started happening to me. I have weak internet and only keep active what absolutely NEEDS to be and as all my games are downloaded I don't need to be online to play any of my Sims games. So what I do is pull up the EA app, make sure Sims 4 is up to date and then select "go offline", it gives me the warning and then its offline and I pull up the launcher for (usually lately) for Sims 3. On my days off I play for many times a good 8 hours this way and until this past week had no problems. Now, anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour after starting to play, it comes back saying the EA app had an error and needs to be restarted at which point I have to completely login again.
I feel this is due to an update in the app as it has just started recently and is being aggressive about it. I should not need to stay online to play these games. Honestly, I do not understand why I need the app to play Sims 2, Sims 3, and Sims Medieval at all. Really Sims 4 as well but I'll let that one go.
Overall, I fully agree with the original poster, we need the app to work in offline mode. Not everyone has robust internet that they can keep the app functioning all the time. The app should not think there is an error if we SELECT to go into offline mode and play without internet.
