I experience issues like this too.
I noticed the time of day greatly affects how high my ping gets.
When I play in the afternoon, ping is normal, around 30-50. If I play at night any time past 10pm PST, I have over 90-150 ping every match. I think it has to do with the number of people playing in your region. If there is not enough "quality" opponents near you, the game will pull you to a different server, thus high ping, thus lag, thus bad time. Also, I have a new router. I am hardwired but my ping seems to be consistently better over all. I 100% reccomend using an ethernet cable. I am also on Xbox btw.
