Re: Lagging out of games with great internet

Hi there, @Sgannon9

Thanks for reaching out. I'll try to help with this. You mention being wired, but you also say your WiFi is fine. Can you clarify if you're using a wired or wireless connection?

Also, it would be good to try clearing the alternate MAC address with these steps:

Go to your Xbox Settings
Go to "Network", then "Advanced Network Settings"
Click on "Alternate MAC Address", and then click "Clear"

Let me know what happens.

  • @EA_Aljo Hey, I really appreciate the swift response!
So I am hardwired in sorry. No lag ever except for randomly getting booted out of madden h2h

I tried your solution, it does not have seemed to work.

Thanks for the response. I'd like you to power cycle your equipment with the following steps: unplug your modem/router and console. After 2 minutes plug in the modem/router. Let them come back online completely. Then plug in your console and start it up. Let me know if that helps or not.

Also, which Xbox are you playing on? If it's a Series X, try removing the game from Quick Resume.

  • Hello, I am on Xbox series X. I have completed this step. I played for a couple hours tonight and I did not get kicked out of any games. However I’m not sure it fully worked. There was multiple times where the game stopped and said my connection was lagging, but I did not get kicked out!

however if you have more solutions worth trying I’d love to make it perfect like it used to be.

I'm glad to hear There's an improvement. Something else you can try is using alternate DNS settings. From the Xbox home screen, go to Settings > Network > Advanced settings > DNS settings > Manual. (If Settings doesn't appear on the home screen, select My Games & Apps, then Settings). From there, enter the Primary DNS as "208.67.222.222" and the Secondary DNS as "208.67.220.220". If that doesn't help, try using the google DNS servers which are: primary alt number 8.8.8.8 - secondary alt number 8.8.4.4.

Also, check your ethernet cables to make sure they aren't damaged. They also should be at least Cat6.

  • Hi can you tell me what my DNS was on before? This change made my connection considerably worse.

I don't have that information, but it was probably dynamic. Change that setting back to using a dynamic DNS instead of entering one in.

  • @EA_Aljo it was switch back. I just lagged out of a win with 7 seconds left. Nothing has worked :/

Does your router support QoS (Quality of Service)? If so, try enabling it and prioritize your console. Also, is UPnP enabled? If not, enable, but also, I have seen the rare occurrence where disabling it helped.

Something else to check is your ethernet cables. Make sure they aren't damaged and are at least Cat6.

  • @EA_Aljo I just bought a CAT 8 Ethernet cord and I am still lagging. I play call of duty all night and don’t lag once, it is something to do with madden.
  • @EA_Aljo Yes the problem is very consistent. It started occurring within the past month or so, and I have played 2 years of squads on this console with this setup with no issues. There is something my game cannot stay with on the madden servers.

I play call of duty every night with no issues, in Warzone I am connected to a hundred other players, and this game can’t connect me to 4.

Have you checked your router for a firmware update? Also, it would be good to talk to your ISP to see if they are noticing any issues.

Is UPnP enabled on your router? I have also seen the rare instance where disabling this has helped.

One other thing you can try is deleting your personal saved data with these steps:

    • Press the Guide button and then highlight the Madden 23 tile.

    • Hit the Menu button. It's the small one to the right of the Guide button with 3 horizontal lines on it.

    • Next, go to Manage game and add-ons > Saved data. Delete the file with your gamertag on it.

There is the risk of losing offline saves and changes to settings you've made. Normally, those download from the cloud, but I can't guarantee this. Let me know what happens.

  • @EA_Aljo Hey man, I’ve done everything you’ve said for weeks now, just lagged out of squads in the 3rd quarter. I actually cannot finish a single game now, it’s worse. There has to be a way you as an EA worker can check if there issues on your side with my connection.

I played multiple single player H2H games with no lag outs, every squads game I lag out. Comcast says my internet is perfect and every other video game has never had an issue. I even bought a new Ethernet cord to fix this… the problem is madden.

We're not aware of any issues on our side at the moment. Unfortunately, I'm out of suggestions at this point. An advisor might be able to help though. Try opening a case here to get in touch with one. Thank you.
