Re: Game crashing after 10 mins of gameplay

@Emiii20078  Thanks for the dxdiag, but it's missing what would typically be the most useful information: the Windows error reports at the end.  Do you use some kind of cleaner app that deletes temporary files?  If so, please disable it while troubleshooting here—we don't want it deleting Windows crash logs or anything else potentially relevant.

As an experiment, please try playing with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

If this doesn't help, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash, specifically while offline.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

The lastcrash file wouldn't help me here anyway.  While Maxis people likely can read them, I can't, so don't worry about attaching one.

    Hi thanks for your reply!

So I started off by putting a few mods and cc that I thought were broken and I played offline. it briefly did the windows circle loading twice but it didn't come up with a windows error. i played for 10 mins and I didn't get any crashing. i also tried the windows reliability error and I checked today's one and I didn't get any errors but I can also see the errors from previous.

I then tried it again with all my mods and cc and the Windows circle came up for a long time with the windows error then it kept coming up during the loading screen into my game, then it came up again when I went into build mode several times when I was searching words. however, the game didn't crash on offline mode. i have checked the windows reliability error checker and I waited an hour but today's errors have still not come up so I will save yesterday's one. if it does eventually come up then I will send that one too:

@Emiii20078  The faulting module here, ntdll.dll, is such a fundamental part of Windows, that if it were corrupt in any way, you would probably not be able to use your computer at all.  So the problem is likely something calling it incorrectly.  That, unfortunately, still leaves a lot of possibilities.

Please test online but with no mods or custom content at all, and let me know whether this exact error happens.  If the game runs fine, that's your answer.

If you get another crash but a different error, please post the RM info here.

If you get this exact error again, while playing online, let me know what antivirus you use.  Please also test with the EA App in offline mode but your computer still online.

@puzzlezaddict Hi so i tried it with no mods or cc and it still has the blue loading circle when I am closing the game which didn't usually happen before. I downloaded new cc to try and start over and the issue is still happening. i didn't get a crash error from trying with no mods or cc but I got one just before

@Emiii20078  Please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop; if the folder copies instead of moving, or you get an error when trying to move it, stop here and let me know.

Otherwise, when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

@puzzlezaddict Hi so i tried this and I got a new folder there was no difficulties. I still got the windows loading circle but this was before the game loaded up and i got a white screen, after that it didn't show up and I didn't get any error message. i went into live mode and the game played normally with no error messages. So do i just drag my save files back and readd my cc?

@Emiii20078  Rather than adding back your custom content all at once, test it to see what's causing the crash.  The 50/50 method can make the process more efficient:

    https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method

When you've finished sorting through the contents of your Mods folder, you can add back the contents of the saves and Tray folders, plus Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those.  The other files are extraneous and can be discarded.

@puzzlezaddict I have tried the 50/50 but the issue is that it seems to be multiple cc conflicting. so its making it harder to actually nail down the issue. its either multiple cc or one cc conflicting with a lot of them

@Emiii20078 Have you looked at known broken items in Broken/Updated Mods & CC , including "previously broken"?

For finding conficting CC, you can use an additive test method, adding in batches. But also, when you do a 50-50, are you ensuring that mods have the other mods they depend on? See the instructions here: 50-50 (some online instructions miss this aspect of testing).

@luthienrisingI have looked through the broken/updated mods forum and nothing in there is the issue. can you please explain the additive test? or am I overthinking and it's simply just adding stuff in?

I wanted to add does cc also have items it depends on? I'm trying to think if I accidentally deleted some kind of mesh but would that really cause big issues?

@Emiii20078 Deleting a mesh will just break individual CC, not cause crashing.

An additive test is adding a batch at a time to the Mods folder, and keeping on adding. Always know which is the most recent batch. If you start to get crashing in testing, you can suspect that most recent batch might be conflicting with someone else.

If you'd like me to have a look at your Mods folder for possible issues, I can do that, but it might take me a bit to get to it. I'm out much of tomorrow and working late today. Instructions on how to create that list are in the last post of How to Use Mods and CC . Those instructions create a text file that can be added to a post here.

If i have cc that is missing pack requirements could that be the cause? I've never seen broken cc mess up my game like this before.

I will try the additive test but I would really appreciate if you could also look at my mods folder. I have the text folder for all my mods and I also did one with just cc mods, however it wont let me upload these files. it says they are unsupported extension types and I'm not sure why

@Emiii20078 CC you don't have pack requirements for normally just won't show up. Use the exact method a the end of How to Use Mods and CC  - not any other method - to create .txt file. Then attach it to a Reply here using the paperclip at the bottom of the Reply box.

Hi i did everything it said to do in the method and the file is a txt file but it continues to say unsupported extension type and I'm unsure why

I have attached a link to the one drive so hopefully it works. I'm sorry that my cc folder is messy its because I've been trying different methods, if its too messy I can make it more organized it just might take some time. Also I have a version with just my cc if that helps better

    @Emiii20078

You have so many script mods that there's a chance you've hit a point the game doesn't manage well. That limit is 250 script files - I didn't count, mind you! But you might just be hitting high enough that your computer can't manage the load. Delete gameplay mods you aren't actually making use of. There's a chance that this is your main issue. However...

Check the Previously Broken CC list. I recognize some names that I think I have content from there.

Check the names of files that show up here with ? in the name. There might be a special character there that the game doesn't like.

I see you're using a mod manager that renames unused files .packageOFF instead of deleting them. I'm personally not a huge fan of this method and would just delete the files you arne't using instead, or move them out of the user folder to a holding place. There's less chance of problems, and a smaller folder.

    • Delete these:
      lotharihoe Phone Call Overhaul
lotharihoe Sim Spawn Overhaul (see the Broken/Updated lists). You already have Home Regions, which does the same thing and probably conflicts with it
      PBJelly photo frames mod
Bed Cuddle - delete if you own Lovestruck
mercuryfoam mods - all unsupported, some known or reported broken
      Helaene socials mods
Teleporter placement .png files that come with pose mods

    Delete and redownload Lumpinou RPO

Pick one version of Smaller Mosaic. Note that I don't support 18+ mods, so you're on your own for those.

Check KiaraSims mods, Somik & Severinka recipes for updates

Check adeepindigo, Kuttoe, Lumpinou, sims4me, and Somik and Severinka files against packs you *don't* own

Test without this 2014 mod: Krys29 - No Zzz for Sims 4

Because you use LoryNa Expanded Pregnancy Interactions, you need to control the quantity of CC in these categories: parenting skill books, children's books, toybox purchases, bassinets, chnage tables

I highly recommend doing some reorganization. You have mods in folders and not, and multiple folders for furniture. You also have a whole folder called Merged CC - and merging means you're likely to end up with duplicates. For example, I think you have the BAYSIC set twice? You have some creator subfolders under other creators. In the process, consider deleting CC you never use. A smaller file count overall might help you a lot.

Delete that MCCC last exception file so you know the next one created is new.

@Emiii20078 In the text file, there are files with a question mark in the name. This might be actually a question mark in the actual file name, or it might be a nonstandard symbol that the text-file software can't represent. Either way, search the file to find those, then see what they are in your actual folder and consider renaming them.

@luthienrising The files were from a creator called huien I think they usually have a heart in front. they have never been a problem before but I could try renaming them

@Emiii20078 It's unlikely to be the cause of your issue, so not critical. More likely that you've got more mods than your system can handle, plus the outdated/conflicting ones.

@luthienrisingI have a few ideas of what it could be but I'm not entirely sure. So I got a new expansion pack just before my game started being weird. Im not sure that its down to what my system cant handle because even if I put 2 folders of cc it will still cause the loading issue, but when I play with no cc and just mods its fine. I think it could possibly be batch fixing but then that also doesn't make that much sense because I restarted my whole clothes folder and it still causes issues, but with my original mods I batch fixed it with default replacements and merged files and then I found out that you arent suppose to batch fix with those kinds of cc files in the game
