% Damaged Increase / Decrease Taken: Worst Part of Apex

Fortified (10% reduced damage taken) and Low Profile (5% increased damage taken), have been the worst additions to this game. While I understand the hitbox debate and struggle, placing a mandatory damage reduction or increase needs to be removed. Here is why:

Now there is a 15% spread between how much damage I can do to Tanks and how much damage they are doing to me. Normally, in other games whereas Tanks and DPS characters are carved out more, this type of spread is justified. The tanks TAKE MORE damage because the DPS characters DEAL MORE damage, whether by skills or abilities. But in Apex this is NOT true. We all use the same guns and bullets. As a DPS character I cannot force you to take more damage, meaning if we both hit 100%, I'm going to lose 100% of the time.

It may be easier for me to hit you due to hitbox but that is why Gibby got a gunshield in the first place. Caustic does not have a gun shield, but rather a well played one can force vision impairments with gas.

The 15% spread is making the player experience very unenjoyable and the is the worst part of Apex.

Solution

Instead of placing arbitrary gun damage manipulations, make those characters abilities STRONGER. Buff Gibby's gun shield. Buff Caustic's ultimate (horrible btw - needs a change). Give a solid reason to play bigger hit box legends by making the trade-off about Hitbox vs Abilities, not Hitbox vs Damage.

It feels bad when you totally outplay a player pound for pound, only to have them with because of arbitrary means. Please remove these mechanics from the game and seek other means to compensate for larger hitboxes.

  • @o-Talzy-o 5% more damage equates to taking an extra 1 damage. 15% less damage equates to taking 3 less damage. And that's mainly for snipers and shotguns which deal single fire, high damaging rounds. It's even more negligible with fully-auto guns. A grand total of a difference of 4 HP per shot - given that both players hit all of their shots - has such a neglect-able difference in game that I find it funny you've even mentioned it. Nobody even bats an eyelid at Fortified or Low-Profile on the forums and it's barely noticeable in game - to reiterate. Also, there is no "Tank" legends in Apex Legend's. There is 'Offensive', 'Defensive', 'Support' and 'Recon' legends respectively. Everyone has the same health, same armour and same guns. To compensate the larger hitboxes, Fortified was added to the Bigger Legends. To compensate the smaller hitboxes, Low-Profile was added to the Smaller Legends. Watson is the perfect example of this, despite being in the same 'Defensive' category as Gibraltar and Caustic she does not have the Fortified passive but rather surprisingly she has the Low-Profile passive. It's based on size not class.

    I agree the bigger legends need buffs to their kits but honestly I see more benefit in increasing Fortified to 25% reduced damage and Low-Profile to also sport 25% increased damage. A much more significant change and I would like to see how it would play out in testing.
  • @WoahItsTeaPeople will disagree but I played as caustic some this past week and I did alot of games as Gibby I feel like Gibby is pretty Solid and dosn’t need anymore buffs I got 8 wins as him but with Caustic he just isn’t as powerful as he was in Kings canyon back then all buildings were 2 floors and he ruled the bunker but in the season 3 map he just dosnt seem as OP unless your near a vault or similiar closer in area because all the buildings are multiple floors and everytime I toss his ultimate at a team in an open area they simply just move out of it I feel like his ultimate needs a increased area distance not alot but alittle or atleast go through multiple floors maybe 2-3 floors max however his gas traps themselves seem fine if placed correctly

    now the 10% fortifier is because there hitboxes are larger

    the 5% more damage is because everyone used to play as path/wraith/lifeline and never use any of the other legends
