Aim assist is literally broken. And i mean broken, not unfair.

I would try to record & post a video showing this clearly but I'm too lazy.

I'm on PC and I've been using controller for my first time ever, for the past ~3 weeks, picked it up just for fun & out of curiosity. All my advanced control settings are optimized to my liking. Aim assist is on. I was getting better at using the thumb sticks but noticed I'm losing fights where I chalked it up to my sensitivities being too low because I could feel my ADS taking too long to line up to the target. I was like, whatever, I just suck with controller. Turns out my sensitivities are fine.

Then on the firing range I realized what the problem is. Aim assist is actually programmed to work incorrectly. I don't know how this doesn't cause outrage among you rollers. Let me explain.

1. Aim slows down (impeding your sight's movement toward your target) before it even gets to the target's hitbox. If I'm trying to get my aim ONTO the target, why would an ASSIST mechanism stop me from doing that? It should only slow down your aim when your aim is inside the hitbox.

But the much much much worse problem, the game breaking problem, which I would literally call a bug, is

2. If you strafe one way and ADS and swivel your aim the other way to line up to a target, your aim is REPELLED from the target's hitbox so that even with the look stick jammed sideways it takes like 3-4 full seconds to ever catch up to a target that's even standing perfectly still. So in every fight where I'm strafing to dodge bullets and pushing my ADS sight in an opposite direction of my strafe, it's impossible to get my sights to reach the target on time. That scenario makes aim assist drop my look sensitivity to basically zero when it gets just outside of the enemy's hit box and my sights are stuck there.

How are you guys OK with this? I've had to set the controller aside for this which is sad because I thought roller would be fun.

  • @IceCr34mEmperor "How are you guys OK with this?" Uh... because most of the console/controller players just slap on a strikepack or something. Also the aim slows down to help you aim better at the target, and not overshoot, however the aim slowing down to do that causes more annoyances than its worth.

I play on PS4, the aim assist does more damage to my game play than it helps.

When a enemy is running and I am trying to track him by aiming down sights and attempting to put my reticle in front of his body (where they are going to be)....the aim assist wants to pull it back to where the enemy was and not where I am aiming (where he/she is going).

If the enemy is standing still it is fine. One moving, the aim assist never allows me to shoot where I am aiming - always pulling to the past. It is awful.

However - I notice when Respawn's / EA's EOMM system rotates to (it's my turn to have fun) - it doesn't seem to do that.

  • @IceCr34mEmperorI know exactly what you're talking about. Sometimes I have to rip my aim off of the target so that I can re align it.

Its really frustrating because you have to "wait for the game" with its slowdown on the target tracking box for the crosshair to align on it.

So youre kind of playing "against" the game as well cause of the increased time it takes to align on target.

Looking at how M&K players align on target is instant in comparison.

Why they put controller and m&k players in the same lobby is like putting cross country skiers with downhill skiers 3 2 1 go! Ridiculous. And this is supposed to be a "competetive shooter".

Tracking is horrible because if you track off of the "tracking box" your normal sensitivity is activated and my crosshair goes way off to the side of the target. Its just an awful experience. I dont feel in control of my aim. I feel like they have increased the slowdown zone around the target this split as well. Or it may be some sort of initial thing they do to calibrate my aim. Sometimes my aim feels stuck in a zone around the target. I use Advanced Look Controls as well to refine deadzone and curve.
I don't like using M&K either because its so many buttons to keep track of and feels clunky movement-wise especially on Valk.

  • I agree with you, its frustrating.

I feel like since the launch of season 12, so many little things have changed, including movement. The fluid movement just doesn't seem the same. Ive been playing the game since day one. Dead slides all the time now, worse since patch 1.91, bullet slow seems increased and aim assist is slower like you said and feels more sluggish. Not the fluid apex movement that made the game famous that I fell in love with. Since all the original devs left this game has gone down hill for me.

Not even sure if any of the new devs even play this game at all. Sure feels like they don't have a clue.

  • @IceCr34mEmperor I guess Im ok with this because I dont play mouse and I play only against rollers... 😬
We should have the option to disable any of those assist features independantly

I agree with you, I think they are testing it at the moment. But yes, every patch seems to change something that drastically effects the game mechanics and usually in a bad way. Just too many changes, doesn't even feel like the same game anymore.

These new Devs have literally broken this game for me.

    So sad : (

You guys are aware that you can turn off target compensation in your settings, right?  Since it's such a hindrance.

Yes, I am aware thank you. However it feels like linear to me with it off. And I have not master that setting yet. I find it quite hard to get used to.
