Am I a bad teammate because I didn't land at the same location

So was in a rank silver match and got teamed up with a wraith and bloodhound. When we were in the drop ship they wanted to drop at the bunker(which was also a hotspot) and I wanted to go somewhere else, but I wasn't jumpmaster and went along. That was however until I saw 8 other squads going to the same place(one was Predator) and I immediately broke off and landed on the Nerby houses. My teammates died within seconds and when I said ill craft their banners they called me [edited] lifeline before leaving.

    You did the right thing.

I'll even take it a step further. Waiting to break off from them until you were so close to the drop that you could only get as far away as the nearby structures... was waiting too long. I've taken to choosing "solo jump" in the drop ship in the five second window before the jumpmaster can even jump. In my opinion, which I'm sure others will contradict, it sends the clear message that I won't tolerate idiocy. Sometimes they get it, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they test me and it always ends in tears.

Point is: jumpmaster is a bad mechanic. It's necessary in a team-based game where the majority of players believe that two random strangers are both competent and like-minded as far as playstyle and match goals. But in my experience they're seldom competent and never share my match goals and that pretty much forces me to abandon them to their own devices. I'm not their mom. This is a "sink or swim" game and people are responsible for themselves, and I remind them of that when they get downed in three seconds and wonder why I'm on the other side of the map.
  • @ken6ji What qualifies you as a bad teammate depends on perspectives.

You didn't land with your teammates, and they got wiped out. To them, you're a bad teammate, to us, you did the right thing by not dying with the team, especially since you were Lifeline and can safely recover their banners at a replicator later.

If it was ranked, they should be happy they didn't die top 20. I wouldn't take their opinions to heart, considering they knew what they were dropping into when they saw all the enemy dive trails and heard the "an enemy landed near us" voice lines.

Not landing with the team is something I do a lot, and I'm more likely to do it when I think I might die on drop. I don't prefer to land next to other teams and then hope the loot is better where I'm at.

Also not to mention that you should give some space between each other when landing anyways, as one area isn't going to have 6 good guns, a bunch of ammo, armor, and heals. They landed with other teams, and there's only like 4 bins and the bunker. Between even 2 teams, there's not enough loot for everyone.

Since they almost always place solo Qs with  premade duos in ranked, I think solo Qs have the same right as making their own decisions about the game as the premade duos. What I try to do as a solo Q is to clearly communicate my intents, either my spamming "no" and "go here" OR to simply say what you think it the chat. I actually have two macros on F9 and F10. One makes me say "I am not a big fan of running after a premade duo in their loot trail the entire game" and the other one makes me say "This doesnt work. I go solo now. Plz mind your own business and I do the same. GL and HF".

I am not the perfect teammate but neither are the majority of premade duos I choose to play with when I choose to Solo Q. Bottom line is that its EVERYONEs responsibility to mind what their teammates are doing, i.e their position or their current health bars etc and this goes for both solo Qs and premade duos. Its just not an acceptable excuse to run ahead, far away from your teammate, die 2v3 or 1v3 and then start blaming and flaming. Its makes me smile everytime when a premade duo just ignores you the entire games and just runs ahead, dies and then start flaming you for not being there. Well dont go there and dont take that fight if you see your solo Q teammate didnt follow hahah. Same if you choose to push an enemy squad after downing an enemy for instance. Its on YOU to check your teammates health bars before you choose to go in. It takes 0.1 sec. Dont blame if you run in and dies 1v2 if both your teammates literally had 1 hp.

@NerfMyAimPlzI think the experience for solo Qs with duos is the worst you can get. I too get paired with them like 90% of the time in ranked and im always waiting for them to make the worst decision ever that gets them kill or gets me kill or get all of us kill.

i just always mute them just in case and try to not follow them into disadvantages situations since the verbal toxicity that may come from these people that are not even that good is unbearable

  • @ken6ji To me, the bad team mate when it comes to "breaking off" is the one that pings "I'm going over there" at the first second of the possible drop time, then solo jumps into a hotspot, dies and leaves.

That person should solo no fill, in another game, on another planet, without air...also in with a nuke going off next to them just to be sure...

But jokes aside, I often break of and urge my team mates to do the same so we do not land at a single bin with no loot only to get in a fist vs. gun fight.
Having diferent loot paths is WAY better than just being there for moral support or what ever you can offer. These people seldom look where they are going, much less where the team or rest of the lobby is either. Don't blame yourself for a millisecond for thinking, way to little of that in the world as is.

    Good luck in your games!

This thread got me thinking I was right in trying to stay safe by avoiding hot spots even though my team goes otherwise.

Dont get me wrong, there are times I dont care, but some times I just want to play for more than a minute.

There is so much map to explore, after all...  :]
