anyone feel like vantage ult sniper is very weak?

to me it felt like a wannabe sentinel, its got very similar performance to the sentinel, yet it only does 50 dmg on the first shot, and for an ultimate, that really doesn't cut it, especially if it only comes with 5 shots

the 15% damage increase is practically pointless, as targets hit are either too far off to take damage from other sources or often so low, it won't matter anyway

it's rather confusing that the devs made an entire legend with a custom scan like effect, only for it to have barely any noteworthy effect (15% dmg amp).

I think if vantage's sniper is to be more meta, it needs to have more impact than a standard ground loot sniper, in this case, that of buffing damage taken, say it does fixed 75 or 100 damage a shot, and amplifies damage by 25% (no more 50/100 scaling, simply 25% more damage on every damage source, even the snipers very own followup shots 100>125).

Or basically make the targets hit be scanned instead of damage amplified, I mean why make a recon legend that doesn't scan, or have a passive debuf that does practically nothing, especially for snipers, snipers greatly benefit from scans.

If we look at rampart's minigun, there's a lot better stats on that compared to normal guns, so why is vantage's sniper so incredibly lackluster?

Perhaps because they only playtested it as a kraber and this was a last second soup of small little effects that ultimately amount to nothing (15% bonus damage, 50/100 damage scaling, 5 shots as if the thing is as powerful as a kraber etc.)

Did I mention for some reason it has a super bright laser on it, which automatically gives away the player location and alerts everyone that they're being aimed at?

It all feels like this ultimate was MUCH more powerful in playtesting and was nerfed into the ground before release.

I like vantage's design, but she provides barely any noteworthy effects to snipers and her ultimate feels like a downgrade sentinel.

  • its okay to release legends in a rather overpowered state, as long as they feel unique and stay true to a certain design philosophy, like valk being about going airborne and flying around and seer being able to see/detect everything or horizon being about mobility and enemy mobility manipulation (black hole), new stuff should feel fun and exciting to play, it being overpowered simply makes sure they are sure to have a strong fun factor.

releasing legends in an overpowered state is fine, as long as balance patches come quickly, the thing I fear is that vantage is going to go on the useless bench until next season where she'll get a SLIGHT buff like changing the damage amp from 15% to 25% and that's everything she gets for the season, ultimately changing nothing, while she seems like a really cool legend, which only makes it more frustrating that she feels so lackluster, its like crypto back in season 3, very cool design, extremely low powerlevel.

I gues I expected vantage to make snipers a lot of fun to use, but that clearly didn't happen

another noteworthy thing is that vantage says "just try and hide with that tag on you" indicating the sniper might have been a scan, which would make a lot more sense, its just that for a sniper which has such an obvious laser, the sniper does not at all feel dangerous, its instantly out of ammo, does barely any noticeable damage and provides very little debuffs for the team.

    in short I'd suggest:

sniper increases damage taken by 25%

sniper deals 100 damage per shot (125 with the damage amplification included, but no longer doubles, increasing consistency and spook/danger level to enemies who notice the laser pointing in their direction)

like ramparts gun it performs better than an average gun, but at the cost of an ultimate slot and it also comes with a bright laser that constantly gives away the player location and aim angle

  • You are massively discounting the supressive effect her sniper has. If anything her sniper is borderline OP being a free gun that unlike rampart, can be used very quickly and frequently. The laser sight is actually great for spooking players out of a fight, the damage effect lasts a whopping 10 seconds which is itself another suppressive effect that discourages people from attacking during that effect. If anything she does a better job at keeping people from charging your team than rampart does.

I actually see her being meta, both because she has a mobility, but because she has free rechargeable long range damage. I see plenty of people not even taking a sniper with her because they get one for free on a cooldown. Playing her myself I find that her only weakness is indoors, making her an outdoor caustic of sorts in that she discourages people from pushing at range, but struggles at close range.
