Crawler Legend concept

Name: Crawler

Title: Reality bender

Class: Skirmisher

Charming face, horrific human-spider robot body.

Body has void-technology themes to it just like wraith, but with much more neon-lighted cables and electronics.

This character comes from an unknown dimension and invades the apex games as its former reality is being obliterated through advanced void-warfare, however through technology that dimension is forced to move at a significantly slower pace, allowing this character to hop to other dimensions hoping to stop the catastrophe. This character is not a good person and will do whatever it takes to save its reality.

Effectively mirroring Zoom’s theme, where zoom is shot in the head, but slows time to such a crawl that his final moment is extended into days and years, hoping to find a solution before time catches up to him.

This character comes from a dimension where Wraith’s experiments worked out successfully and void technology became the new standard of weaponry destabilizing reality and destroying it in the process through conflict. This character fields vastly superior void abilities than any other character in the apex games.

Passive: has a heads-up HUD notification if an enemy is within 50m, similar to the solo’s mode.

Tactical: 30 second cooldown, 2 charges, teleport a small distance in any direction, just like Ash’s ultimate. Slows and locks the character in an animation before and after teleporting.

The teleport special effect looks clean and round, not ripped and rough like wraith or ash’s, almost appearing like a droplet of water dropping in calm water, but with black-purple colours instead of black-blue like wraith’s and Ash’s. Signifying the perfection of void technology to an almost magical degree.

Void bomb: everyone in a huge area moves in slow motion, bullets fly at 50% speed, characters move at 50% speed. But actions like revives and reloads are still at normal speed.

Due to this legend borrowing a bit from Ash, Ash’s ultimate could be replaced with “sword core” being the bustersword from the final fantasy event, where she uses her signature sword instead.

Void bomb zone is very large and is black-purple, as if the map is clouded in shadow and all light has turned purple.

This character will be quite agile, able to scale buildings and obstacles quickly, but being locked out of instantly shooting prevents this from being a perfect mobility tactical. Ultimate adds a unique gameplay loop and strategies by slowing the game down significantly, and possibly making gunfighting very difficult for a limited time. Making the routine gunfight play feel completely different.

Note that the name “crawler” is both a reference to the backstory where the former reality moves at a crawling pace and that this character scales obstacles so fast that it could be seen as crawling.

This character’s design was mainly inspired by Warhammer 40k warp spiders, soldiers that slip through hell to gain the ability to teleport across reality. And of course, by Zoom’s story theme, bending the fundamental laws of reality to delay a catastrophe in a desperate search for a solution.

Note also the symbolism that Crawler can use the void bomb to slow the game down, buying its team precious time to reload, heal and possibly escape. A mirroring of its backstory.

  • @KrakaDrak Passive should include mentioning of the climbing ability, or it will climb just like normal characters. Also, that passive is a mirroring of Wraith's blue tier upgrade, Sixth Sense.

Passive should be more like Revenant's, or unique, if you want the climbing.

Here's a thought: Changes gravity when running into objects while they touch those objects. Thus jumping off the object returns normal gravity. This could allow for scaling walls and even walking on ceilings, with a unique animation of crawling on the surface, and they can still shoot, but their hitbox is wide due to crawling on the surface.
Cannot slide while crawling, jumping reverts gravity to main and they fall to normal ground, unless they hit another surface and gravitize to it, crawling on it instead.
No other need for other effects as that alone could be considered very powerful.

What upgrades have you thought of? Perhaps Sixth Sense would be a blue tier upgrade on this like it is on Wraith?

Void Bomb could be too OP due to ring burn. In Mixtape and central it could be fine, but in final ring and edge running it would be too OP because ring burn. Cast on enemy at the edge, watch as they get crispied. Free win.
I've been thinking of ways an Ultimate could combat that while managing to do those sorts of slows, but I can't seem to figure something quite right.
My best has been Server Wide, but the problem with that is it's server wide.
    Localized is too OP.

I've also thought of a shadow man who has a similar tactical to yours, just not with such penalties.

I've made another who is anti weapons who relies on melee and swift charging abilities to compete.
I've made a list of over 75 concepts.

I've also made a list of Partnership Perks for existing legends. Yet to apply that to my concepts. More because I want to see if the devs accept Partnership perks. If they do, then I'll apply it to my concepts. Until then, keeping the concepts to current standards: Passive, Tactical, Ultimate, Upgrades. Partnership would piggyback off Upgrades, using the same skill points as Upgrades, causing players to make a choice: default upgrade, or partnership upgrade?
Would also give a stronger reason to report abandoneers for Sabotage, in cases where people chose a partnership perk but then the person left the game, probably deleting their skill point in the process, thus making the game that much harder for the person.
  • @KrakaDrak When I say changes gravity I don't mean that conceptually. Conceptually the character is crawling on the surface, no gravity changes. Mechanically it's changing gravity to give the feel of crawling on another surface.
  • @KrakaDrak As for changing ash's ult, does the tactical have the range, and does it persist for a duration letting anyone use it? If not, then Ash's current still has a use.
