E-District should go back for major edits

Good level design principle is that from the ground perspective (in FPS) the player should never be confused as to which direction they want to go in based upon the options they SEE.

E-District shreds this principle by making everything look too similar. To start with, the following changes should be made:

  1. Those sections of the map that are for traversing should not look anything like buildings.
  2. Building that do not have loots should be EXTREMELY obvious they don't have loot, and I would say they should not look like building in any stretch of one's imagination.
  3. The vertical play is excellent, wouldn't change any of it.
  4. Bins can line the side walks or highway edges.
  5. Don't be afraid of replacing large dark grey structures (that have no doors or windows) with parks that include trees. I honestly think it would be better to have more open space to snipe across like in Kings Canyon.
  6. Make at least one more POI with several tall towers that each have 5+ levels to loot from and navigate through.

To expand on the last point, the four purple flower towers are the best POI on the map.  It is a shame that it is on the edge of the map. You could drop 8 teams there and the engagements would be wonderful. The cross patios between pairs of buildings, the looting both on ground floors and roof floors gives ample time to arm up and prep for engagement.

I love the ship in the dock, but it doesn't ever seem to attract many people on initial drop. I would add more loot to it and build up the dock around it more with buildings and loot.

Otherwise, apart from wondering which direction to go to get more loot, I am enjoying this map more and more.

I love the new map and the overall issue seems to be that people can't easily snipe others. Honestly, I like not having much of a threat from snipers. Although snipers aren't completely out of the map's meta, and many players are playing as Vantage, so its a matter of perspective I suppose.

As for the loot and copy/paste buildings, the map feels like it has a lot of loot and it gave me the impression of having more loot bins than the other maps, while I don't pay too much attention to the buildings, so it doesn't bother me. Besides when you think about it, if each building was unique, there would be a ton of work for the design team. I would rather have a map that didn't stress out the team that made it over a map that did.

Also, with the map looking the same in a lot of places, it makes adding town takeovers easier as the team could improve an area, (rather than redoing it). There's a few areas on the other maps that were either empty or boring, that got a town takeover which made it better. King's Canyon, (being the one with the most town takeovers), had a lot of empty and open areas replaced with fun places to visit, loot, and fight in. Octane's and Wraith's are an example of this. While the others, such as Crypto's and Caustic's, gave players a reason to visit outer parts of the map.

While its been some time since the last town takeover, the devs could always make other changes to improve or spice up the map.

Pubg introduced a 1/4 sized map. It didn't turn out badly. People loved it. It only turned out badly for me. That map shouldn't have been in the regular rotation. It should have had its own playlist. I'm never against giving people whatever it is they think they want, but I object pretty strenuously when it represents a significant change over the game as I've come to know it, and when it isn't optional.

@reconzero you have no idea how much i appreciate what you just said...

about how people ask for things they THINK they want in a game.

There are so many examples, but biggest I can think of always have to do with people leaving decades of arena shooters like cod and Halo, and joining the battle royale tsunami... and then trying to get rid of all of the things that differentiate the two. "BR needs less looting, more shooting." "BR needs smaller, faster maps." "BR needs fixed spawns instead of drop ships and choice." The list goes on and on. Why wouldn't people just go back to cod or Halo or any one of dozens of fast-paced twitch shooters instead of whining about how slow and boring battle royale is?

Oh, so can I. I just wonder if we're thinking of the same one. But whether so or not, I'll leave politics aside, if only as a courtesy to the mods. 😉

I have really come to enjoy this map as a sniper’s paradise.

also the engagements in the stairwell at the roof level has be the most satisfying I have found on any map. A team working to control the stairwell from pushes coming up from below and from the roof via zip line is the most fun I have had with any team. Control the stairwell at the end ring and it’s pretty nice.

  • I think this is... the worst map they've released yet. If I have to keep playing this in the rotation for hours on end, I'm probably going to have to stop playing this game to preserve my own sanity.
