EA/Respawn on suspensions and bans are farcical

I got recently banned for "Directed Hate Speech" at an extremely annoying and toxic player. A choice word were used and I am not ashamed to say I cussed out a player with only 2 lines of text. What the "TOS Team" fail to realize what the context is.

Seems like the TOS staff only care that they saw one word (which wasn't even full) and decided that it did not matter that the other player was hot-mic, blocking doors, picking up ammo they do not use or need, spamming words like "noob" and "idiot" at our poor 3rd teammate. Running off solo to lose in a Ranked match and generally aggravating other players.

I also have to disagree with how Repsawn/EA even handles punishment. Wouldn't a chat restriction be a 1st measure? This is my first offense in a thousand games instead of a full blown ban? This is like jay-walking being punished with a life sentence.

Mind you, the choice word used is no more offensive than anything you would find on South Park, which ironically is available on Origin. I even asked the wonderful TOS team for a list of words and phrases that are banned and the best they could do is link me a webterm page.

Only thing I found relevant was this:

***Interfere with or disrupt another player's use of an EA Service. This includes disrupting the normal flow of game play, chat or dialogue within an EA Service by, for example, using vulgar or harassing language, being abusive, excessive shouting (all caps), spamming, flooding or hitting the return key repeatedly.***

Is blocking doors, shooting teammates and stealing absolutely everything from teammates and hindering our chances to win a game not violating TOS? Somehow I get banned for talking back at someone who has been spamming for the 10 minutes I had to endure. I'm sure some wise folks think that muting is an option. Which I agree, then why didn't the other user not use the same feature?

Overall I am pretty damn shocked by how flaccid the EA Help Center has been. I am not trying to dispute what happened to me, but it is supremely absurd that this so-called TOS team seem to act with such contempt. EA also does not seem to really care about enforcing it's rules. The amount of verbal abuse I see in Spanish, Mandarin, and Malay would make Jeff Dunham blush. The amount of offensive and illegal user names I have seen (especially against religious laws) is staggering as well. Should EA ban everyone at that point too?

  • @RotblutAlready been done this entire past 2 weeks. A whole event is about to go by thanks to some troll who saw fit to use the report function as a weapon. I have been repeatedly getting the same canned responses without any attempt to reach any kind sense. They were not going to have any investigation done in this matter.

For context the ban is over them highlighting a word that could be short form for Re-target.

    Thanks

@Hanonaut You openly admit to trading insults this indicates that you know what you did by responding to said person. The report feature is there for everyone to use. So if you did not report them yourself then someone just got to ride scott free of any actions being taken against them. Had youi reported them they would be sitting in the same boat as you. The proper actions was taken even if you try to twist your words into something else the context of the conversation would indicate the true meaning of the word. So with this being said you had actions taken against you for breaking the TOS. Rule 5 of the terms of service that you clicked to create an account is quite clear.

Another flaccid response from EA or EA affiliates. Do I have to report every infraction committed in a game to EA Support? Feel free to use the search user function on Origin or Steam and type in any offensive word or phrase and start banning people in that list. It is also odd that this rule only applies to English and not Mandarin or Cantonese?

At some point you have to start getting realistic about enforcing rules. No one is impressed with cherry picking and making examples of anyone or anything. Perhaps EA should hire a team to start cracking down on trolls as well?

I also find it odd that you can recognize that there was "trading" (even though it was in retaliation) so why is there no punishment on them? I have already filed a case about it weeks ago and nothing has been done.

Oh and forgive me, the TOS has changed multiple times. I deeply apologize if it was some law that we all had to read and comply with it daily. I have already asked EA and the forums for a list of banned words and phrases so that players can avoid it. Thus far, I have no seen anything of the sort.

The EULA also has EA providing service for paying customers and that so long as the license was purchased officially, yet games like The Saboteur are no longer available and Titanfall 1 and 2 are barely functioning despite being released again very recently. These terms and conditions goes both ways. Only difference here is no one is enforcing the other way around it seems.

  • I don't agree with the TOS Enforcement policy of EA in general.

A lot of the suspensions are vastly exaggerated. A punishment is supposed to teach people, not to remove them from the game entirely. And these suspensions can be done better by suspending them from the chat. A simple move with better results. You keep a customer who isn't going to annoy people. And people who disrupt the gameplay seemingly remain in the game regardless of severity. So a direct influence on my game experience yields less punishment than harmless words.
