Today Epic has stated that they support EAC for Proton:
To make it easy for developers to ship their games across PC platforms, support for the Wine and Proton compatibility layers on Linux is included. Starting with the latest SDK release, developers can activate anti-cheat support for Linux via Wine or Proton with just a few clicks in the Epic Online Services Developer Portal.
I would love to play this game via Proton. I am a Linux only gamer and I know there are a good amount of people that would play via Proton if it was enabled. I would 100% buy and play this game if anti-cheat were enabled. We just want to play the game too.
I've been missing playing Apex Legends since switching to Linux, so I would love to be able to play it again. Also I'm sure many people want to play it on Steam Deck as well.
Not surprised this hasn't gotten an EA response yet, let alone actually enabled. It seems they only respond to issues reguarding small things that are not related to cheaters, smurphs, server issues, and you know... the actual problems of the game. I know the playerbase can get toxic, and its a small percentage, but for real, we shouldn't get ignored. It was already sad enough to see Titanfall die off, it be even more of a shame to lose Apex, because no one wants to actually fix the problems or try to at least.
They stop doing LTM as much as they use to, events stopped being actual challenges and things like the Bloodhound event where we searched for the white crow. (That should of been a solo mode, where it was just you on World's Edge, but whatever), all in which is now just $300 heirloom events, $20 re-skins, and the two recent non-heirloom events, (Halloween and Dark Depths) are just "here's a bunch of items you can unlock after the event". Which I like the idea of it not being a collection event, however Halloween was a let down, as the mode was 1 week out of 3 weeks, and Dark Depths has no mode. The last change to the game was the addition of heat shields. (Gun and legend nerfs/buffs aren't counted).
I don't want to sound ungreatful, and I know things take a lot of work and effort, but from most of our perspectives we say things like "hey, the servers are not the best", and get a "check your internet connection", with everything else seemsly getting ignored (No EA response, and the thread ends up burried under others to the point where the first of the matchmaking complains and such were more than 3 months ago). We're dealing with several game issues, while small non-disruptive things are fixed and patched out. The last I can recall, was placing nessies on player's heads using Wattson's "Easter Egg" emote, that was so much fun, but it got patched. (Things like the Crypto/Rampart drone combo was a deserved bug fix though.) My point being, we complain about things and they still persist. Even this bug is still existing after I had reported it a while ago (Applies to Wraith skins with helmets, and I would not be surprised if it gets fixed before anything else. Its a minor thing like the nessie emote, but it seems minor things are less ignored.):
