Environmental and NPC excitement...

I'm a huge fan of the game, which should be obvious from my play time.  I'm not sure if this is in the works, I've heard rumors, but I think these two aspects would push Apex Legends to the very top of Battle Royale if these are implemented correctly.

*Add environmental hazards to the map with high risk and high reward mechanics.  Such as valley with lava that is a high tier loot, but not platforming correctly could cause you to fall into the lava for instant death.  Or, using the Swamps as an example, have Toxic Gas plants littered around the area and if you step on it's vine or get within certain proximity it can cause a Caustic-like effect which players could strategically shoot to escape someone or blind someone.

*Add NPC mobs to the game such as Crocodile type mobs in the swamp, to ravenous Sabertooth Tiger in the desert that hunts the kill leader (or opposite, hunts lowest (weakest) kill/damage player in the area), to Yellow Jacket nests that hang off trees and buildings that can be shot which causes a DOT (damage over time) area of effect.  Stuff like this would make all the running around the map more exciting and add so much more fun to the game.

These were just some of my thoughts that would keep me interested in the game long term and would push Apex to the top.

  • Personally i find the idea of NPC's a terrible idea. Not only do they cost a magnificent anmount of server resources but will greatly inbalance the natural gameplay.

Enviromental traps are okay i suppose, over time however people will figure out exactly what to do and thus make those traps/risks less trappy/risky.

    Just dropping my thoughts.

  • Well, to your point, the NPC aspects could be a particular mode, call it Survival or something.  However, if done correctly, it would make Apex more unique and I just like the aspect of a PVE/PVP blend.  Raises the replayability of the game in my humble opinion.

  • One other thing to amend, say perhaps the NPC you kill always drops a Gold item, or has it's own loot table, then you've kind of blended a Borderlands aspect into the game. Just saying, the more I think about it, the more I think it would make the game a lot more exciting than it already is.

I see where you are comming from.

I for once do not enjoy pve or even pve elements a single bit so i still think its a terrible idea.

Guess it comes down to preference and how much is possible without interfering with players like me.

  • This is a very interesting idea.

Apex is up for only few weeks, still work-in-progress. We have 1 map and 1 game mode. Some in-game clues are indicating, that there will be more over time.
