In fact, packs completely fund both of their esports leagues as well.
Really? How much did you pay for your copy of Halo & Overwatch? How much did you pay for your copy of Apex Legends?
- 6 years agoThat has nothing to do with anything.
Those games are years old, and the packs still generate so much revenue that they have multi-million dollar pots for their tournaments. You clearly have no grasp of how much money micro transactions bring in.- 6 years agoSo that initial surge of cash has zero impact on their wallet? The business model that was chosen for this game was a proven concept. Why would you a leg off of a 4 legged horse? Fortnite was so successful with the Battle Pass that PUBG finally conceded and followed suite. Apex Legends is following suite right from the beginning. It's the sensible thing to do and doesn't impact the gameplay negatively in any way. Don't like the idea of paying for a Battle Pass? Don't buy it and continue to play the game as you have thus far.

God I forget how ready this generation is to just take it with micro transactions. What happenes when you force it for so long. People start thinking gouging is normal and start to like it. Gets kind of Stockholm like

how much did you pay for league of legends?
how much did you pay for dota 2?
how much did you pay for warframe?
how much did you pay for path of exile?
how much did you pay for the world of tanks/warships/etc?
all of those are free to play game which aren't pay to win and doesn't have a battle pass while still making pofit and gaining money.
as i said before, battle pass/loot boxes are really not the only way to make a profit

@BallClipper I mean, POE is a grindfest that allows you to improve your actual gear, so not entirely applicable. I've been out of WoT for quite some time, but back in the day, it was very much Pay to Win... As for LoL, Dota 2, & Warframe, I am not familiar, but this was both fun & informative.
- 6 years agoleague of legends, dota 2, as well as world of _____ all have paid boosting services provided by 3rd parties. PoE has real money transactions via 3rd party. The only competitive content in Warframe is pvp (to my knowledge), in which case you can buy desirable vaulted primes with silver which is real world currency. These are all pay to win mechanics.
Lastly, there is no such thing as a free to play game. You spend money, you invest time, or both. The time you play a game, is time that you could have spent making money. As such, the time you play is a financial loss to you, the consumer.- 6 years agothis is sooo true
