How do the provisional matches even work?

Hello everyone. Hope someone can shed some light on this as I can't don't understand these provisional matches. I average between 3-5 kills a game during the 10 matches and usually most games i was in top 10 and got placed in rookie 3. My buddy on the other hand averages 2-3 kills and he somehow miraculously gets put in bronze 2 https://19216801.onl/  . Happened last season already and idk how that happens
