Idea to remove smurfing
Hello, Recently I've been getting quite some smurf accounts in my lobbies (<lvl 30 with 20 kill badges and all) and I've got to find quite some afterwards who seemed to be masters or preds. I've h...

Otherwise, I think they'll need to change how they measure 'skill' in their SBMM. They'll never tell how they do it because they consider it a 'secret formula' but moving players up quickly in lobbies (i.e.-dropping a 20 bomb at < level 100) might limit the issue.
I don't really know how to fix it. All I know is that I absolutely hate smurfs.
Well this might be a good workaround for NEW smurfs.
For example level 50 or even 100 to go into ranked. Takes some time and would demotivate those players.
Although, those who already have their smurf accounts since years most probably have reached a higher level already and so would be able to bypass this modification

@HappyHourSumwurExactly.
How many of you have actually made a "smurf" or a second account? I don't think it plays out how you think. Your first game in a pub is like playing bots, but after that, you will literally see Players with Pred badges and lvl 500's in the very next match, lol. It's very short lived and not worth it for that. I've made a couple accounts playing with different friends introducing them to the game. Just being a "body guard" more than trying to show off.
It really is a team based game. The skill gap is really compressed in this game since it's been out for quite a while at this point. There's also a good amount of aim assist. I would argue it's tuned too high. Then there's a ton of videos on how to improve. After watching higher tier players, the big difference feels like they just never miss. Which honestly hardware is playing a big role. The game gets very choppy unless you have a pretty decent rig to smooth it out.
They are adding a rookie only tier. Once you leave, you can't go back. That's great for new players. A real smurf will blow right past that.
Well here you talk about pub games. Ranked is different. You move up the ranks together with others from that rank.
Pubs is mostly based (I assume) on different criteria which is combined in the sbmm. This way they will put you up against preds from the games to come.
Ranked is not like this imo.
@Baws_FredgyYou need to be a lvl 10 to play ranked. So, your first game on a smurf account you will play against bots. Even unranked has SBMM. Your second game will adjust and put you in with people it thinks are of a similar skill level.
Smurfs are going to rip right through the lower ranks. I get it though, if a lot of people are doing it, a lot of smurfs are going to be passing through.
What rank are you this season?

@Baws_FredgyNew smurfs are what you want to address. An "old smurf" is no longer a smurf.
Honestly? Not sure.
SMURFING is when a highly-skilled player creates a secondary account as a disguise to play against less proficient opponents. This almost always results in the Smurf steamrolling their lower-level adversaries, which might be hilarious for the better player but usually leaves their victims bitter.
It doesn't matter if the 2nd account is a new or old account. As long as he remains a low level on it, it's called a smurf.

@Baws_FredgyYou don't remain low level for very long though. That's why I asked if you have ever done it. Go make one. See how it goes.
What's the difference between someone who didn't play for season, comes back as a bronze vs a second account starting the same level? It's going to be the same thing.
Yes, but so, if the entry level is higher, it already takes out the part of the new smurfs, definitely a good modification already. Then still need to find a way how to work on the old smurfs.
It can always happen that a high skilled player took a break. I'm just trying to find out if the is a way to reduce it to a minimum by making it less easy to smurf 😊😉
I mean, if it's only that time a high skilled player took a break and you won't get ambushed by a bunch of smurfs every 2-3 games, it would already be a big improvement.
