It really is a team based game. The skill gap is really compressed in this game since it's been out for quite a while at this point. There's also a good amount of aim assist. I would argue it's tuned too high. Then there's a ton of videos on how to improve. After watching higher tier players, the big difference feels like they just never miss. Which honestly hardware is playing a big role. The game gets very choppy unless you have a pretty decent rig to smooth it out.
They are adding a rookie only tier. Once you leave, you can't go back. That's great for new players. A real smurf will blow right past that.
Well here you talk about pub games. Ranked is different. You move up the ranks together with others from that rank.
Pubs is mostly based (I assume) on different criteria which is combined in the sbmm. This way they will put you up against preds from the games to come.
Ranked is not like this imo.
@Baws_FredgyYou need to be a lvl 10 to play ranked. So, your first game on a smurf account you will play against bots. Even unranked has SBMM. Your second game will adjust and put you in with people it thinks are of a similar skill level.
Smurfs are going to rip right through the lower ranks. I get it though, if a lot of people are doing it, a lot of smurfs are going to be passing through.

What rank are you this season?
In pubs it's indeed good that the sbmm turns active quickly. But finding it necessary in ranked too.
I did only play about 300 games this season as there was a lot going on (becoming a dad, house renovations,..) but made it first split to d3 and this split I went from p4 to d4 in one go in a little more than 6h
What about you?
- @Baws_Fredgy In ranked I'm guessing there's a secondary SBMM that determines how teams are made with how players are being grouped into squads.
I got to Diamond both splits this season. I didn't really try to climb in Diamond though. Like I said earlier, this game is just something to do and the gameplay loop isn't that exciting to me when trying to climb through Diamond by myself. That's why I'll climb again on a different account. It's something to do. I'm not trying to prove anything to myself, It's more like I'm waiting for an MMO that actually grabs my attention.
