/raises hand - I am one of the trash teammates and I apologize (although you said UK and PSN so we've never matched) but I feel your pain, only, its from the opposite side. I am solo queue'r because all my friends refuse to play since EVERY other shooter out right now is superior to Apex but...
I LOVE this game, as someone who played rpgs, this game has elements that keep me coming back no matter how terrible the game runs or how terrible I am. My k/d is bad, my aim is bad, I get straight melted but I'm getting better about strategy, seeking cover, etc. I don't want to play games with plats and higher, I don't want to match with 10k+ kills, 20 badge, exceptional players but thats what seems to happen. It's not any fun for me to be completely outmatched while my teammates are dropping enemies, my game play has changed completely, I just follow my teammates, pick up whatever loot is leftover and try to keep up. I shoot when I can, heal when possible, rez if I can, and get called trash when the game ends. Add this to the many other problems in the game and its not much fun anymore.
Now onto your other points, the lag in this game is infuriating and game-breaking. In the last couple days I have been shot around corners, taken damage when the enemies gun wasn't firing and my personal favorite lost a match to a mirage that shot his peacekeeper from behind a rock and killed me. I play on xbox and my lag is 35-40 with 0 packet loss, why is my game not matching my opponents? Respawn has been quiet on this and 1 year later we have no fix....still.
You make many valid points, the game play seems to have gone from somewhat strategic in Kings Canyon to a shotty/sniper mode now....run in and shove your gun up someones * and pull or stand way pack and 3rd party snipe everything. It seems most fights are either in a building or long range.....the mid-range tussle doesn't seem to happen as often. I hate pathfinder with a passion, his ability needs a longer timer and shorter chain, the extra cross-hairs for his ability helps with hip firing which is *, headshots are damn near impossible.
Last thing for me, cheaters/hackers/mod users........I've been told countless times that its not possible on xbox to which I strongly disagree. As you mentioned even a simple rapid fire mod is game changing. I don't know how many people are actually cheating and how many of the strike-pack mods actually work but there are definitely fights that seem off (some of which is the * lag), and there are players out there that are amazingly accurate (and the question of why am i matched with these types when I suck). Also, m\k users on console to me is cheating, I really wish microsoft and the devs would figure out a way to detect xim and cronus and start putting those players in different queues.
I will continue to play this game because it suits my style more than other shooters, but with that said I will not spend a penny in the store until we get a more consistent experience.
